The split CD can be a blessing or a curse. If you are a relatively unknown band and are able to snag one with a popular act [i.e. Useless I.D. and The Ataris], it can do wonders for your career. Conversely, on a split CD, you might put your best material on the CD, but the other band can still blow you out of the water, which makes you look foolish. That is the case here. Slick Shoes is a strong melodic punk band. They remind me a lot of Unwritten Law, especially the vocals, which need to come WAY down in the mix. The singer drowns out the band a decent amount of time in their first 3 songs on the CD. Their fourth song is a stupid outtakes song, with random retarded soundbites thrown in. Skip it. Slick Shoes had definite potential, I would stay on the lookout for them. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
a year and a half later i think i'll comment. AUTOPILOT OFF is amazing, thirty million times better than slick shoes, and at the tmie of this release, cooter was still better than slick shoes. the new 3 on the cd are 3 of apo's best songs, and they are all great. i would buy this split if i could actually find it. and yeah the vocals on the first slick shoes song are the worst result of mixing i've ever heard in a song. Seriously, Holy shit, u are so far from the truth. Slick Shoes have been around for nearly 4 years prior to this cd and have released 3 AMAZING cds and 1 EP. They are my ALL TIME favorite. The fact that u could even consider Cooter better than SLick SHoes is scary. Slick Shoes is much better, I only bought this for Slick Shoes Dude, Slick Shoes is the best band ever. |
