Epitaph Records -- Millencolin

The Dead Milkmen are one of my favorite `80s pop-punk bands, probably only behind the Descendents. I'm not too much of a pop-punk fan but I really liked this album.

Now We Are 20 is a rip-off if you already have Now We Are 10. The only difference is three songs: "Ask Me to Dance," "Rock'n'Roll Queen," and "A Message to You Rudy." So it's not worth buying NWA20 if you already have NWA10.

The album includes live songs, old demos, and a broadcast from a radio station, which the best songs from the album are derived from. A song which you may remember is the early commercial (somewhat of a) hit, "Bitchin' Camaro," in which they give the song an interesting introduction.

The best songs on the album are "Right Wing Pigeons," "Rastabilly," "Takin' Retards to the Zoo," and "Stupid Mary Anne." "Takin' Retards to the Zoo" is really catchy and always seems to find a way to get stuck in my head at some point during the day. Conspicuously missing from this album is "Punk Rock Girl," which is one of (if not) their best known songs.

All in all, I was satisfied with having to pay $13.99 for this album (who do you know that has a Dead Milkmen album you can copy?). If you would want to start off buying any of the Dead Milkmen's albums, this one would be the best place to start.

    My Score:

The Dead Milkmen are better than all of us. I tried to deny it for the longest time. I thought we were funnier and wittier as a collective, but I was wrong. This band is better.

Death Rides a Pale Cow owns all other retrospectives released to date...Big Lizard in my Backyard is the best debut known to man...Metaphysical Graffiti wrecked more bungs on average than anything released in this past 50 years, possibly longer...

You must listen to the album...no, not listen, you must HEAR the Dead Milkmen...just like Wesley Snipes would.

I would also recommend the live Troc CD (CHAOS RULES - LIVE AT THE TROCADERO). I believe I have seen this CD floating around in stores.

Feel free to disagree, I might be a bit of Troc/Milkmen slut, this is how I was introduced to music.

The Dead Milkmen got me into punk, I love 'em, but as the guy a few posts below me said, buy "Big Lizard In My Backyard" first. You won't regret it!

"Big Lizard In My Backyard" should be the starting point- after all, new Dead Milkmen fans are gonna have to get it eventually, why not get it first?

Agreed. Hands down the best collection of Dead Milkmen, although NWA20 is probably the second best.

This album is pretty damn good...reminds me of Radon, Naked Raygun, Ghost of Lester Bangs and some early Lemonheads. Really fucking sweet punk rock!

Superdude you are hilarious, but try a different style of joke. Your style is more monotonous than Ben Stein.

This review was pretty good, but here's how I would make it better:

    1. Do the families of the dead milkmen mind that that others are capitalizing off of their tragedy?

    2. How'd they die?

    3. I don't get the birthday cake connection.

    4. The Birthday Cake Connection - band name?

    5. That's my new band, and out first song is:

    6. Large Hawiian Pizza, No Ice

the reason that the dead milkimen are such a great band is that, while they may be poppy, the tongue in cheek humor is everpresent.
and, well, im a sucker for yuppie-mocking.

I loved Beelzebubba back in High School. "Stuart" is just a classic. R.I.P. Dave Blood.

    My Score:

I have "Beezlebubba" on vinyl, and just listened to some of it today. Some of their stuff is really great, and some of it is grating. "Punk Rock Girl" (and the video) is one of the best pop-punk songs, though.
