In 1992, three guys in high school named Mike, Andy, and Yuri got together and formed a band called Magnified Plaid. By the time they graduated in 1995, the boys from Bremerton, WA (who eventually shortened their band name to MxPx) had already signed to a record label and recorded two albums -- Pokinatcha and Teenage Politics (Andy was replaced by Tom after Pokinatcha). The summer after graduation, they would go on their first U.S. tour and would explode in the pop-punk scene, recording the popular Life in General the following year. Life in General seems to be the favorite album among most MxPx fans, and over the years has overshadowed what, in my opinion, is an amazing album: Teenage Politics.

all of yall talk bad about jesus well be judge wen he comes back. get the punk rock beat your life!! mxpx is cool man life in general is a 9. let it happen, for a bsides album, is amazing. SGTWOTB is pretty good. their new album might be ok, i havent given it a chance yet. Why the fuck do you review a record that's 10 years old and that everyone knows of ??? Why is that brilliant, incisive, and cutting satirical comment "hella lame?" Yeah... I just don't get why people talk so much about the remarkably prominent religious aspect to the music. Why can't they just get over it and not focus on the lyrics? It's not like it matters that much. I'm Jewish and I happen to love Skrewdriver. What? It has a good beat and you can dance to it." For those that hold the band's faith over their heads, get a clue and be more open minded like you preach. Intolerance breeds hatred. So what if Christian kids liked this band, they had just as much right as anyone else did(do). Most of those same kids(Christians) probably listened to Bad Religion, Face to Face, Nofx, etc. at the time too. I know I did. Nothing about the Bush agenda has changed one iota since he took office "Wasn't Bush's approval rating actually 90% after 9-11? Shows you how fucking retarded people are in this country." "no1 cares about mxpx's new cd." no1 cares about mxpx's new cd. no1 cares about their upcoming cd. they are past their prime. This WAS a classic album, considering it was recorded by High School kids. For those that hold the band's faith over their heads, get a clue and be more open minded like you preach. Intolerance breeds hatred. So what if Christian kids liked this band, they had just as much right as anyone else did(do). Most of those same kids(Christians) probably listened to Bad Religion, Face to Face, Nofx, etc. at the time too. I know I did. Wasn't Bush's approval rating actually 90% after 9-11? Shows you how fucking retarded people are in this country. Nothing about the Bush agenda has changed one iota since he took office, yet since 9-11 peoples' opinions have seen a change of a full 53 percentage points. Fuck the 90% of Americans who mindlessly rallied behind the flag. It's funny how people suddenly turn in to flocks of mindless drones every time a "war" rolls around. I 'd say this isn't their best or wors tbut one that got me into then. Life in General is better but this isn't as bad as Before Everything and After. All in all an alright pop punk album. As for Moneytree... maybe if Herrera had spent more time in school he'd be able to write semi-interesting lyrics... or at least rip off better people. As a former dedicated listener of MxPx I can safely say "Teenage Politics" is their least listenable album. The 19 songs within this disc are marked by memorably corny lines ("Never wanna be a money tree...a money tree!") and loathsome, cringe inducing backup vocals. That said, "Slowly Going the Way of The Buffalo" and "Life in General" were staples in my CD rotation throughout my "middle-teens" and a few of those songs still sneak their way on to my iPod for nostalgic listening purposes. "You don't know anything about Christianity!" poopypants... the first line was well-put. this album is so fucking bad, and i consider myself an mxpx fan (been listening since i got 'life in general' in 97, one of my fav pop punk albums ever) but this is just immature shit w/ stupid religeous songs. This review was pretty good, but here's how I would make it better: this album doesnt deserve a 10. actually, none of their cds do. slowly going... is the best, but even that has at least 5 filler songs that were completely unnecessary. "The Ever Passing Moment was hated too when it first came out, but a lot of MxPx fans now think it was their most mature and all-around best effort." They had some hooks and some fast drums. yeah the kids that i knew that liked MxPx liked them for playing pop punk Yea its funny because a lot of MxPx fans HATED Life In General when it first came out (for reasons varying from the lyrical content to the style change).... now almost every single one of them say its their best album. the fact that they stood for shit they believed in, regardless of how it differentiated them from their peers was always impressive to me in a sort-of backwards way, i always thought the fact that they were christian was the most "punk" thing about them This wasn't the end of Mike's Christian Lyrics... "However, it's too small of an aspect of their music to be the only thing anyone comments on anytime anything about MXPX is posted, though" yayforapathy did post below. Signing on is for the birds. "it is practically cooler to support bush now that everyone 12 year old has a not my president shirt and you can't go to any show with out hearing fuck george bush blah blah it is soo cliche.. I remember yellowcard was saying it at wapred 2004 even ha ha." it is practically cooler to support bush now that everyone 12 year old has a not my president shirt and you can't go to any show with out hearing fuck george bush blah blah it is soo cliche.. I remember yellowcard was saying it at wapred 2004 even ha ha. I have a soft spot for "Life in General", but I'm not really sure if any MXPX songs could be considered all that classic. this album's ok, but can anyone who enjoys good pop-punk not say that "Life In General" is a great album from start to finish? That being said, Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo is a great CD, as is this CD to an extent. ""they openly supported Bush back when it was popular." "they openly supported Bush back when it was popular." This CD was alright, I really loved it a couple of years ago, but since I've realized that the lyrics are mundane and childish. Still, it's a fun CD. MXPX is nothing more than a fun band, and their politics should never be taken seriously, as they openly supported Bush back when it was popular. this is an alright record. i listened to it a lot when i was 15. No MXPX album should ever be a 10. I loved this CD back in the day, I still get the old "memory Boner" when I listen to this and Life in General. I mean I recorded that shit to tape so I could listen to it in my tape deck before I had a protable cd-player. It was so good at the time. Quite simply, Herrera's lyrics are terrible. bah, i'll admit it's a little annoying with all the jesus talk, but i don't hold it against satanic bands, so i won't hold it against them. i'm glad they toned it down a lot in their recent attempts to sell out. I really like the breakdown on track 10 or 11 on this disc. I don't remember, but it sort of stops for a second and Mike sings: this is the first MxPx i ever heard. so i'm probably biased. i can see that LiG and SGtWotB are much better and more 'mature' (as if that matters), but i have a soft spot for this album just becuase of nostalgia. Ya, I dunno about this 5-star stuff either - and I bought this CD a couple years after it came out when I was into MxPx. Life in General and MAYBE Going the Way... are the only MxPx albums one could consider 5-star. There is still too much growing as a band on this album to be worth more than 4 stars, especially in a day and age where a million people have done it better since. 5 stars????? are you kidding me? this cd is awful It explains a lot that boba_fett is Canadian, though... i guess im in the minority on this site. i still like this album and i still like seeing mxpx live. i guess im in the minority on this site. Im not religious or nothing but i had to take a class on Jesus he seemed like a pretty cool dude. He boozed and partied all the time and it was possible that he had a bunch of kids. People need to seriously quit being so biased in these reviews. Seems like every album reviewed gets a 9 or 10. this was a shitty band 10 years ago too. good to see some things don't change. and for some reason, when i think mxpx, i don't think one of the most essential punk records of all time. now this review would've been perfect on ap.net this band has only one good album - life in the general MxPx made a shitty album. you guys are crazy if you don't think this album is as good as Damaged. If Damaged was a man and this album a woman, they would have created a love child known as Scared Stoopid. a 10 is pretty ridiculous. especially considering that life in general is easily better. it was the bass line in chick magnet that got me into these guys 10? Cha right, dude This score is out of control. This review is crap. couldn't you ahve posted all those jokes as one comment? or at least post some that i haven't heard a hundred times? Jesus is coming, but he pulled out. Why can't Jesus eat M&M's? What did Jesus say before he died? Jesus walks into a motel, throws a bag of nails on the counter and says, "Can you put me up for the night?" why doesn't jesus play hockey? what's the difference between jesus and a picture? i always loved this album |
