Yeah, Ok, I know there is a review of this already on here- so stop your bitching now. But I haven't written a bad review yet, because well I haven't really heard any totally bad albums this year. That all changed when I heard this.

Can you call this punk? Well, that's up to you... the CD has 1 slightly decent song: "Makes No Difference." The rest of just feels like songs that were written in 5 minutes to fill up space on the album. I don't know if these guys are trying to be funny, but it's not working, maybe to the little 13 year old TRL viewer, but come on guys, most of you are in your 20's, act like it.

I feel its bands like this that are totally ripping off the scene...I know there are tons more bands from Canada who are way more talented than these guys wish they were, i.e. D.B.S, Belvedere, Sector Seven, Grade, and lots of others who should be getting more recognition than this crap.

The music itself, is your typical pop punk teenage party music, with the mid tempo not quite fast drum beats, and the usual whiny vocals. Which also is getting pretty damn old. It was kinda cool at first, but it seems there are so many bands fighting in line to get a piece of fame.

Anyway enough of my ranting and raving, and on with yours, this is gonna get some crazy comments I'm sure.

you sir, are such a fucking dumbass. do your fucking research before you critisize a perfectly good album.

"i dont know if they're trying to be funny..."
-have you seen their videos dumbass? yes they are. thats what they're all about.

"most of you are in your 20's, act like it."
-once again, Deryck is the oldest in the band and when they came out with this album, he was 18. dumbass.

"most of the songs seem like they were written in 3 minutes to fill um the CD"
-God damn... how stupid can one human being be? fuck... ITS AN EP!!!! its not a actuall ALBUM!!! its an EP!! of course the songs arent going to be as long of as well written. good god.

this shows Sum 41 back in the day when bands had fun with there music. it is up there for their best release to date.

First off I'm a big fan of Sum 41 but yeah this cd is pretty awful except for a few tracks. The only reason i bought this cd was for "Makes no Difference".

Sum 41 have changed a lot since this abysmal poorness.
Makes No Difference is definatly the best track, but I don't even like that song.

The harder stuff on DTLI is much better, and the day they said
"Hey, our old stuff is actually about as good as contracting genital herpes" was a great day for punk lovers everywhere

This cd is ok, not there best, so what if its not straight between the eyes punk, im sure they wouldnt claim they were, but its closer to punk than metal or jazz or country etc, its in-between punk and pop, ie pop-punk, so its still punk and yes its also pop, but the most important fing is, its good

I guess you meant that you are 42, so in my books that makes you one sad individual since you are still listening to bands like this and dissing them on the net. Get off your unemployed arse, find a job, put the bottle down and grow the fuck up!!

Man I'm sick of hearing about people who have been listening to """""punk""""" for like 85 years. they try to make us think that they have the authority on what we are all supposed to be listening to because they happened to be older. I can't help how old I am. why would sinority factor into a culture that is based the everlasting youth? I for one will not respect these people any more because they are old enough to have seen X or the Weirdos or Husker Du live. I love Punk rock because it's not pretentious and egotistical.

Oh and by the way yes SUM 41 suck, but not as much as TSOL

I used to be pretty in to Sum 41, but then I realized that they were pretty "poppy," but they were still OK. Then some fuckwit kid in my school was like "SUM 41 RULES MAN PUNK FOREVER" and started throwin up the horns every chance and I was like "Hey Craig, you ever listen to Pennywise?" His response: "Naw, man, I don't like that old school stuff." I couldn't help but laughing in his teeny bopper face. Holy christ, it was so funny.

But I digress. Sum 41 was OK, but then they sold out, in my opinion. They have taken every possible chance to make appearances on MTV. I mean, FUCK. God damn MTV ruins music sometimes. Hell, most of the time.

One awesome CD. I don't think it's much better or worse then "All Killer No Filler," but I will say that this CD seems to be more straight punk rock, and very slightly more hardcore then "AKNF," which is more on the poppier side.

To me it just seemed like you were taking an easy target (sum 41) and just slagging them off for no reason. Only after I commented on this review did I see the other review for 'Half Hour of Power' in which it was given 5 fucking stars. I suppose with someone else on this site saying that 'Half Hour of Power' is a 5 star record that there was some need to re-review this album. I jumped to conclusions a bit too quick. Sorry mate. icK still has respect and love (not like that perverts) for you ColdJuly.

Frankly ColdJuly I'm a bit disappointed in you. I have enjoyed nearly all of your other reviews; however this one seemed pointless. Why even bother to review a band like Sum41 which you seem to not consider "punk" on PUNKnews.org ... Commenting on bands like Sum41 , Blink or GoodCharlotte is just asking for trouble. I don't see how reviewing this album gave anyone a better perspective on it. While I agree that this album is shit, basically all you did was help to escalate the hostility on this site. Adding fuel to the fire is stupid to say the least. Next review an album worthy of some attention.

It dosent matter how long you have been in the scene to me, As long as you appreciate it and be thankful of the music it has brought to you. I am however, NOT thankful of music such as this....who take punk and exploit it into something its not even remotely close to being. Its a harsh review yes I know, But were all entitled to our own diverse opinion. Thas why I knew this would get the comments it did And I accept them.

I don't like the album much.

    Their shows are OK.

But hey. Guys. Whats the problem wiht kids at shows? they grow up, they become the teenagers adn men at your shows. I have been into Punk for about 15 years now, adn yes, i went to shows when i was a preeteen , adn have ever since. Tho there was no big "punk" trend then, I was never calleda poser, I was never yelled at for likeing a band. If the kids like it, let them go to the shwos. If they are posers, they wont have that much fun, they'll stoip coming to the shwos, especially since the trend will blow over, as has every trend since...well, every trend.

Second, all the "sellout" bands arent jsut trying to jump in on the fame. They were around long before the trend and got lucky. And cheers to whoever said that you always bitch about certain "punk" bands not getting enough recognition adn wehne they do you call them ssellouts and claim to hate them.

And, By the way, I consider Public enemy punk, even tho they are hip hop. so then tell me, what exactly IS punk anyway???

I've been listening to punk/hardcore for about 12-13 years now and honestly do not understand how kids canbuys this in mass amounts. Maybe its MTV or commercial radio, I don't know. But if this introduces you to punk, ok. We all can't start off listening to the best bands because quite frankly they aren't the easiest to access. However, if you have come to this site or others, you would have a sense of some of the more musically inclined bands. So come, don't be so closed minded just because Carson Daily is pushing this shit down your throat......sickboi

READ this kids and guys in the their 20's(words of a wise old punker). I've been into punk for about tweenty years and I Still dont know what punk is all about and dont think I am stupid. So I just stated to laught when all you kids know what punk is about. Sum 41 is crapy compare to all the U.K. underground stuff I have listen to. But what you kids dont understand is that punk evolves just like everything else. I was there went NOFX and Rancid got big in the underground world and I hated them, but I learn to evolve, I would strongly recommend you define punk again. Punk is to put out a message about politics, society, girls, overcoming an obstacle, and anything Religious. Nazi punk are what you guys are suppose to be hating because that does harm the society in general. Sum 41 sents out a message that my grandchildren can relate to and I got them Half Hour of Power and All Filler and No killer and I thougth it was good but I still preferred PINK TEDDY BEAR CREW(a band you never heard of)-Grandpa

    My Score:

I have to admit the reason why I used to like this CD is because I was 13 when I bought it. I thought this was what punk was. However, I can kind of thank Sum for introducing me to punk because there was a link to this site on a Sum 41 site, and I have since listened to the bands that are in high regard here, and I have really learned what punk is. Looking back, Sum 41 is so mediocre compared to the likes of NOFX, Rancid, etc. Now it sickens me that they have gotten so popular and that everyone else still has the ideas that I used to have about Sum 41. It sickens me that when I tell someone I like punk, they say, "Oh, like Sum 41 and stuff?" So what I'm saying is, I definitely cannot be anywhere as punk as you guys in your 20's, but I just think that Sum 41 should not be in the musical library of any real punk fan.

Hah well I never thought I would really post on here.

Well simply put this band was not created by Def Jam/ Island. I have seen them for years up here in Toronto. All the songs on the Half Hour of Power are the same as the set they use to play at small shows. And they would play anywhere to. Not just punk shows. Nore did they seem to care about being punk.

Simply put they were just a bunch of kids in a band who lucked out got a huge record deal and have become rock stars.

Thats it. And now there playing stages accross North America touring with tons of great bands.

And me. Well I'm in Toronto. Working the 9-5. But hey at least I got a cubicle.

Now if I could only learn how to sing.

    Peace.

So they may not be the most "punk" band around but does that really matter? Yea this sight is called punknews but if the webmaster posted the review he obviously considers this punk. Notice when someone wrote a review of the new Blink album he put it on the sight but did not put it on the main page where it could be easily accessed. This album has about 4 different types of genres all in it and I dont see how you could categorize this album into the pop punk stereo-type. The first song, Grab the devil by the horns and fuck him up the ass, is a great metal song, THT is a typical "punk" song with fast drums hard guitar riffs and loud screaming vocals, Makes No Difference is a great pop punk song probably one of the best Ive heard and then of course the one everyone will rag me for is the rap song, Its What We're all About. There new album may be extremely pop punk and have all the makings of the next Blink 182 and there is nothing wrong with that in my mind but I think that Half Hour Of Power deserves some recognition. And saying that Sum 41 was "created" by Island Def Jam is a load of horse shit so why doesnt that person just shut his fucking mouth before i whack him with a sack of doorknobs.

So this is crap cuz you dont like the style? so what! This is Fucking music! you cant judge a band by it's style or genre. if you dont like the genre to begin with, shure you'll say it sucks. Music is music, if they like playing that kind of music than more power to them. sellout sellout, god you people are so anoying with this. if they want to make a living off making music and having fun, they're just that much more lucky. I would love to get paid to do something i love doing. Now for the people who cry out that they copy blink. First off it's not like blink is the only band that can play that style of music. If there would be only one band playing one kind of music we would have like 3 punk bands, one emo band, one pop-punk band. wow that would be fun. If you dont like it, doesnt mean it sucks.. it's just not to your liking. personnaly I like it. It's not a masterpiece but still, for entertainment value, it's worth it.

When you review albums on this site, you should review them if you consider them punk... and then that should be that. It should be a yes or no answer, not a "it's not quite punk enough so I'm going to give it a lower score" - no, stop. If it's NOT punk enough for you, then don't review it on a site called PUNKnews.org!

By the way, this is a cute pop-punk album. Nothing I'd listen to over and over again and become a huge fan of, but not horrible.

Ok, I dont care what you label sum 41, but blink, good charlotte, NFG and others bands are on the same bandwagon trying to get in on the fame..and attmepting to be "punk" while doing so. This little temporary success will come and go just like other trends and crazes.

Soon all these bands will be nearly forgotten about...and yet another trend or style of music will be ready for the masses.

Yeah Im definitley NOT the punk authority...but all this is getting old. Really old. and soon these bands will find their newly found fame, gone.

Honestly, you are correct. However you should have wrote this as a comment under the album's review(s), not create a seperate review for it.

Second...I think this band was created by Island to fuel the minds of the oncomming punk trend...However! As popular as you guys think pop-punk really is...it isn't! I'd hate to break your heart, but the trend is still rap/hip-hop/boy-bands. Sure this stuff is all over MTV and such, but don't get your panties in a rubble, no one really cares about this stuff, it'll come, and go soon...

Another thing I've wanted to comment on...I always see people talkin' about how they think band should get more recognition that don't get as much. However when a band does get bigger, then you all bitch about selling-out and shit. Seriously, shut the fuck up! Like I said before, the mainstream doesn't care about what greatness we have to offer. And if it does break into their stereo for more than a few times, then good! Punk has a message guys...We need to spread it! Punk is a partial movement to make our little eyes aware of things!

So in conclusion...Quit whinning, if you don't like it, don't listen to it! It's not your band, it's their's. And no matter how much you bitch, they're going to do what they want to do! Not what you want them to do!

Eh pointless review, but I have to agree. I think this band is pretty lame. I actually prefer bands like Blink and Good Charlotte to them.

Can you just stop to say some shit about Sum 41? I know it's not really good but have you heard Good Charlotte, Mest and all these crappy bands? Compared to them, Sum 41 is the punkest band on earth... Also, how can they be sell out if they've always been pop... maybe they never wanted to be a punk band but just a pop band. Anyway, since 2 years, it looks like if you're punk and you say that a band is selling out, you're cool... is that punk attitude? I don't think.

this cd is good. not great, but good. better than the new cd i'd say, too. sure it's not super punk, but it can be fun to listen to, in moderation of course...

Killer musicians, decent production, but piss-poor songwriting that blatantly is trying to be something it is not. If these guys had served a little time and didn't take instructions from label hotshots who constantly look over their shoulder, they'd be ok in my book. Too bad they screwed it up by taking the high road right off the bat.

    Crazy

No but seriously, its so obvious you were having a pop off this just for the sake of it, it really came across in the review, you picked an easy target and went for the easy pot shots. I honestly think this review is a waste of a php file... Next time, write an honest review, don't just pander to the crowd.
