New Found GloryNew Found Glory (2000)Universal Music Group Reviewer Rating: User Rating: Contributed by: Chris Gorman (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on September 6th 2001 Hmmm...This is one album that left me scratching my head. To be perfectly honest, I am really not sure if I like this or not. I know that I enjoy the cookie-cutter single, "Hit or Miss". While most fans of the band prefer the version of the song from the previous album "Nothing Gold Can Say" (is that an emo title or what?), I think this version sounds a hell of a lot better. Other than that, I am not sure what I have to say about this CD. When compared to their mainstream pop-punk contemporaries, I think they have a little more credibility. Their songs seem a bit more mature than say, Blink-182 and they are certainly a lot catchier then Sum-41 or Good Charlotte. Still, something about this album doesn't sit quite right. Perhaps the weakness lies in the bands inconsistant melodicism. Many of the songs just sound half-hearted, not quite reaching their potential. Some are winners-see "Hit or Miss" and "Boy Crazy". Others just seem to lazily ooze out of my speakers, leaving no impact on me. I guess if given the choice, I would probably take this band over most any other mainstream punk band, aside from Green Day and earlier Offspring. Some of the songs are really good, others are just plain boring. For the most part, I enjoy this CD as background music. If you are looking for good emo-punk-pop, I would suggest starting with Samiam or Saves the Day before buying this album. But that's just me. Whatever. The only people who reviewed this that like this cd is the same person probably. Why can't singers voices be original and not copy others voices. And I'm not just saying that about pop bands, punk bands like Tim from Rancid copy kind of British bands ( awesome band though)which is kind of stupid. whatever FUck these poser bitches..i have never listened ot them and i never will..FUck you the guy whos rambling on about love . thats bull..and we dont care about bands that go mainstream..lots of good bands are mainstream..for examle afi, the hives, even the ramones are popular..while they may not be my favs.its still good shit..so shut the fuck up and dont come here again FUck these poser bitches..i have never listened ot them and i never will..FUck you the guy whos rambling on about love . thats bull..and we dont care about bands that go mainstream..lots of good bands are mainstream..for examle afi, the hives, even the ramones are popular..while they may not be my favs.its still good shit..so shut the fuck and dont come here again well ive had this alblum since it came out and i loved it when i first heard it and i still do. theyve matured a lot with their music and sure theyve swayed more towards the pop scene than punk but what "punk" bands havent. with the exception of nofx and mxpx. sure some of the songs dont have a catchy beat but thats ok. Okay people. I got this CD when it came out over the summer. And I'm still in love with it. I like the CD because I like the music. They might not be ground breaking, but to me, they convey every emotion I have. Who cares if their video is being played on TV. And who cares if the "sell out" or not. Doesn't every band out there want some exposure of some sort? And why is it that so called "hardcore" punk fans rip on bands that go mainstream? From what they are saying, as soon as a band comes out with any CD, they "sell out" completely. This CD is their best by far. They have some catchy tunes and songs that make you just wanna jump up. And anyway, New Found Glory music is fro anyone who has been in (And out of) love. I really could care less whether these guys themselves or anyone else considers them "punk". If the lyrics and music sucks, the band sucks, plain and simple. Having gotten that out of the way, I can say that I don't really like this CD. It's very catchy, and makes for a good listen, but after a few days started to get on my nerves (the singer's voice is kind of whiny). I saw the video for Hit or Miss on MTV2 a bit after and was like, "Cool, their video's on MTV. Good for them. Too bad I don't like this band or the direction their music's heading in much anymore." I wouldn't care if a band signed to a major label and waved to all the Blink fans on MTV if they didn't sacrifice their music's quality and sugar-coat it for the masses. Who gives a fuck if they're not the definition of "punk". This album is tight. Just like all of their other ones. I seriously doubt there are any "real punks" on this website anyways. I know i am not one. I'm just a guy who likes kick ass bands like nfg. You other fagets like to throw out names of bands nobody has heard of or even likes, just because you don't want to be called "mainstream". You do that because your moms don't love you, trenchcoat-wearing motherfuckers. Fuck off! Would this cd sound any better if they didn't call it punk. This isn't watered down punk. This is the shit. That is what their music should be called. I have yet to hear an NFG song I didn't like. I don't know what radio you fucks are listening to, but NFG is not mainstream, not that it matters. I will still like them when they are bigger than Blink 182 or any other band you want to compare them to. The only song I have heard on the radio is "hit or miss", and not very often. That is not their best song either. They deserve everything they get, including props from me for being the shit. Look you little fucking shits: new found glory are a fucking amazing band and this is a fucking amazing album. It actually destroys all of the complete shit you fat fucks listen to. So don't ever diss it. Now everyone who dissed this cd can go fuck their stupid retarded fat fuck of a mom. Nfg are amazing. Now fuck off. I've given this a 5 because I've never heard it, but I own their two albums prior to this one, "From The Bigscreen to Your Stereo" and "Nothing Gold Can Stay" and I really like them. A lot of kids on this site, to me at least, seem to be extremely close-minded. I like a lot of more "hardcore" bands like AFI, Good Riddance, and Strike Anywhere, I like ska like Less Than Jake, Catch22, and Slapstick and a lot of Political bands like Anti-Flag, The Broadways and Fifteen. I like a wide range of music and all of you nazi punks hate everything that isn't the Alkaline Trio or Small Brown Bike or whomever (I chose those two because they seem to be singled out the most for their "amazing-ness" . If you don't like it, you don't like it, but that doesn't mean you're a "fag" for listening to it or not. Kids like you are ruining whatever is left of the punk scene, and if you ask me punk IS dead because of you kids. I first heard A New Found Glory about 3 years ago... before they sold out I guess. They sucked ass then and they suck ass now. A good reason to hate them? They are generic pop shit with absolutely nothing to offer to anyone other than 13 year old girls... or guys who like 13 year old girls. This band needs to fuck off and die. ha all you punks jump right on nfg's ass and call them sellouts. I knew as soon as i bought this cd that shit was going to hit the fan. Come on really...think about it. First off the re-mastered one of their older songs and to top it off they put full-size color photos of themselves inside the book. Who the fuck do you honestly think that they are trying to appeal to. All they play is heartless repetitive trash. Dude as soon as i saw the album you reviewed i knew you were gonna get all kinds of comments. I do like this album but its not that great. Some songs are pretty decent but some are very not decent. My Brain Hurts is a great album! Unlike this...which is terrible. I mean have you ever seen anybody play this kind of music without intending to make a lot of money or get teeny bopper fans to wet themselves when they hear one of the songs?? I once heard that punk is all about doing what you want to do and not caring what anybody else says so I don't care if you like them or not. I'm gonna listen to them because I like them and I wasn't told to listen to them like all the cool teeny bopper 12 year olds. I found them on the internet before they were mainstream, and I've gone on to better bands than NFG but I still like them. "The songs are extremely mature, and really catchy" ummmm easy killer...lets not touch that topic..ewwwww no they do not put on a great live show It is hard to comment on this album about a year after it came out. The problem is that at the time it first hit the shelves they weren't the household name that they are now. I am a huge fan of NFG, eversince i first heard an mp3 of theirs online, back almost three years ago. This album while more mainstream, in terms of production, than nothing gold can stay is still a great album. The songs are extremely mature, and really catchy, the melodic segments are a little overdone, but with their voices better over than under, and finally they put on a great show! Do the singers whiny, annoying vocals give anyone else a migrane or is just me ?? what the hell is with bands trying to sound like little kids?(is that how they score girls?) Worst Album in a long time. I think any group of guys can get together play their instruments bad and sond like a couple of ten year old boys yelling ina microphone and to top it off they are on my top five list of "Worst Band to See Live...Ever" Robert Frost rocks harder than these guys. I actually enjoy reading his work a little. This album hurts my ears.- fathead maybe people just review the shit they like. thats what i usually do great review!!! its nice to see someone submitting a review to this site and they dont give it high marks like everyone else i kinda like the title nothing gold can stay but that doesnt matter cuz it wasnt that great of a cd and this is only worse. Could you ALSO do me a favor and quit wasting bandwith by posting reviews of bands who's musical talent is comparable to that of the dog poo I stepped in last week. Horrible, horrible lyrics. Some of the worst lyrics I've ever heard. "Some girls are crazy just listen to what I have to say about it, you've got to watch out for the beautiful ones"....that is just awful. this is a shitty, shitty record. they went stright for the most radio friendly sound they could have. i won't drag this out, but you can read my thoughts under a different name in the review section.- fathead Not the worst thing I've ever heard, but come on "Who cares if the lyrics are cheesy" If for just once you all could drop the whole punk "image" thing and just listen to the music, you might hear a band writing some good music. Who cares if the lyrics are cheesy or the band looks mainstream...their job is to make music and nothing else. They're not trying to be "ambassadors to the punk scene" or something. I like this CD a lot. I could care less how they look. Havent you guys seen the outsiders??? Wow, that dude's pissed. I got a free promotional copy of this. I think these guys have potential but I hate the singer's squealish voice. holy shit, i hate this record. talk about the neutering of anything even slightly related to punk. has anyone seen the layout for this piece of trash? what the fuck!? are these guys the backstreet boys? for anyone who hasn't, all five guys are caught in various poses of feigned introspection and puppy-dog-eyed cuteness, with hair bleached, dyed, and gelled to perfection. Is this a fucking gap ad or a pop punk album? it just pisses me off to see people waterdown punk rock, package it in pretty boxes and sell commodified, cheapened, aimless rebellion to uppity teens. wow, way to exploit a market, guys.... This is one awesome CD. |
