| AFIlive in San Francisco2006 live show Review by: Matt St. John See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on May 5th 2006
I was obsessed with The Art of Drowning back in high school. So obsessed that I wanted to share my love of the band with everyone. I did a horribly shaky rendition of “Morning Star” in front of my confused drama class, sported an AFI sticker on the back of my beat up 1984 Dodge Ram, and even sang “Days of the Phoenix” at a school rally. Along with Thursday, AFI made hardcore accessible for a punk rock kid who didn’t stray too far from his NOFX and Dropkick Murphys CDs -- who knew hardcore could retain its edge, and be so damn catchy at the same time!

You guys are fucking stupid...AFI changed...GET OVER IT!!! Wa wa...they're playing AFI on the radio and on MTV?!?! Aww...I'm soso sorry...it that "not punk". Punk fans have to be the most anoying fans on the planet. Shut the fuck up. Yes...AFI's old stuff was great...but if you can HONESTLY tell me fucking Answer that & Stay Fassionable is better than Sing the Sorrow...go fuck yourself. You're stupid. Sing the Sorrow was their best album. YES I SAID IT!!!!! I I love all AFI...but they have come a long way...and the fact that they are popular now..WTF?!?! You "fans" should be fucking happy for them!!!! THEY DESERVE TO BE POPULAR!!! Do you think they really want no recognition for their amazing work? Wow some people need a life!!! THE NEW ALBUM IS GONNA KICK ASS!! Repeat after me... sing the sorrow was ok when i was like, 12. but its just old now. i never get tired of the old school AFI stuff though. set list? id really like to know how much of their pre-sing the sorrow stuff they play. thats the stuff im a fan of. even though, i really like the new song Miss Murder. sing the sorrow was ok when i was like, 12. but its just old now. i never get tired of the old school AFI stuff though. these guys are not good at all. as someone said below, STRUNG MOTHERFUCKING OUT!!!!!! I absolutely hate afi and i would never listen to their gay ass cd so i dont know how this one is but if its anything like the others it hella sux, because afi sux!!!! Does anyone else think that Miss Murder sounds like an American Idiot b-side? From the recordings I've heard/seen of one of the shows they played last week (or was it the week before?), his screaming voice has changed - even on the older stuff, I think. But I was drunk at the time, so I'm not entirely sure what song they were playing. Does anyone else think that Miss Murder sounds like an American Idiot b-side? Davey's screaming on the new stuff, as well as live, seemingly, is fucking horrible. He sounds like fucking Chester Bennington - he's got the whole "I'm about to puke" thing going on, which just sounds awful. Thursday has never done anything that resembles hardcore. Ill give you a pass on AFI because Shut Your Mouth sounds like hardcore to me and its a great album. Miss the opening band. Fine. The story about how you are cool because you were a fan way back when Art of Drowning came out and calling that Hardcore. Whatever. No list of songs played? OK. Where I draw the line is the Panther in a bear trap line. WTF is that? Score is for your nerdy ass singing Morningstar in front of your class. Roffles atchoo. I'm so pumped to see them in June in Toronto. I love this band. wanna be a highschool football hero The first paragraph of this review is so embarassing it would make Eunoch-LARPing-Furries on livejounral.com feel better about themselves. I don't understand why people complain about personal shit in show reviews. A show is nothing if not a personal experience and a review of a show is merely an explanation of how the show affected the reviewer and why. Without some context a show review is useless. i didnt realize that art of drowning came out when i was already in college. old i feel Black Sails is this bands best album. wow. you got into AFI when Art of Drowning came out? that's sooo old school dude. horrible review. you only named two of the songs that they played. im seeing them for free on monday This is exactly how i feel about this band now. Is this a show review or a journey back to one's (not-so) distant High School Memories? Score is for the review Well done review. The crowd actually chants "Through our bleeding, we are one"? I'm going to hit the next kid I see in an AFI shirt. "I can't understand this band's appeal whatsoever. Their records are so boring. God new AFI and the new Ceremony are gonna destroy things this year. I can't understand this band's appeal whatsoever. Their records are so boring. So secret! I live in SF and I had no idea this even happened. I really doubt I would get much out of seeing AFI today. Their music just isn't the kind of thing I could really connect to. I hope they played I wanna get a mohawk and cereal wars! I saw them a few years back with Hot Water Musica "complete with an amazing light show" ceremony is the best band in hardcore right now score is for you missing them, afi still rules but as much as i try i cant get into the newer stuff so much I can't understand this band's appeal whatsoever. Their records are so boring. i like this review. I can't believe they played with Ceremony, I was more expecting Fall Out Boy these days. they should have played perfect fit All I want to know is did they do "Cruise Control?" You missed out on Ceremony. One of the best bands in hardcore right now. Their new album will hopefully be the best 10 minutes of music this year. |
