With former members of Touch and Go all-stars Brainiac, Taang! denizens Bullet La Volta, and second wave emo/hardcore act Chamberlain, there is a fairly significant body of work claimed by the respective members of Model/Actress, and the result is close to what you would hope for: a record drenched in hardcore roots and built on a progressive indie rock foundation. Angular guitars, off-kilter melodies and unpredictable stylistic shifts abound and the EP is refreshingly nonsense-free.

i think they have a pretty good variety of bands when looking at their catalogue over the years I like that Dickory song. it's on the radio all the time here in Seattle I've always thought of Thick as an eclectic label - hardly staraightforward!? case in point: The Bomb, the Blue Meanies, Tossers, New Black, Fingers Cut Megamachine, The Arrivals, Hanalei, T. Duggins, The Methadones and now Model/Actress. lots of diversity. reminds me of the DEP miss machine artwork I've been looking at it for about two minutes and it's still looking dirty to me. This Ep is great. That Chamberlain guy has redeemed himeslef. I like how the cover seems really dirty at first. |
