One of the better hardcore compilations in recent memory, State of the Scene packs a walloping 36 bands into an hour's running time. Featuring a healthy number of relative unknowns from around the world (Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia), Scene showcases a variety of acts within the genre from open-minded, international reaches, and, while containing a granted number of duds, is sure to also have something for everyone.

When my band opened for Wake Up Call, they played this hip hop thing at the end of their set that was so intentionally hilarious. When my band opened for Wake Up Call, they played this hip hop thing at the end of their set that was so unintentionally hilarious. I really appreciate the kind review and words on this album. It started as a sheet of notebook paper with me just writing down bands that I have been hearing about or my band (make or break) has played with on tour. It is awesome how much support this is getting. Granted, not every song is a gem, but I was more concerned about having a record that would be inexpensive so people could check out new bands or bands they wouldn't normally give a listen to. Not all the songs are my cup of tea, but all these songs are what the bands thought was their best representation and rather than making a comp of all bands everyone already knows and isn't exciting, I recalled the days I would go into record stores and pick up a comp for like $3 and just get to listen to a slew of new bands, liking some, not liking others. Anyway, thanks so much for the support and the kind words and especially this review. Snide comment from Will or Ken, check! Hey thanks for checking out Years From Now when I told ya about em, Brian. Jerk! "State of the Scene"? Yeah, ok. No mention of the Geeks or Bail Out?
