It’s been a decade since well-respected label Temporary Residence launched; with the plethora of excellent albums released by the group, the number of their bands that have seen a recent jump in popularity, and the high-profile signings they’ve made, who wouldn’t want to celebrate their tenth birthday? A three-night stand at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City, with four different Temporary Residence acts each night, was the party they threw, and not even Hurricane Ernesto was going to stop me from dropping by one of the nights. I attended the second show of the three, featuring one of my personal favorite and one of the most important bands in music today, Explosions in the Sky.

I have seen and loved: Explosions, Mogwai, Mono, and Pelican. Explosions was my favorite out of all of them, then Mono. But I cant help but wish I would of seen Godspeed! when they were around. i had tickets to this show and sold them. i really, really, really regret it after reading this. for my mood music, william basinski. Explosions in the sky rules! Almost as much as Isis. 65daysofstatic are more electronic oriented, kinda glitchy at times, but still pretty emotional and atmospheric like most post rock Who are these 65daysofstatic? Are they in the same vein of eits or Mogwai? Also, I have never seen Mogwai or eits and that saddens me. One of my best friends has seen them both, and he hangs that over my head every day. 65daysofstatic are AMAZING...i wish i could see them live!!! 65 Days of Static live blow both Mogwai and EITS out of the water - one of the top 3 bands I have ever seen. They manage to convey the same emotions as both bands, but manage to do it in 4 minute songs. Absolutely amazing. clarification: "wasn't all that great" means when compared to a regular eits show. mogwai only played for about 40 minutes and stuart was having tech problems throughout. still good tho, and they opened with "mogwai fear satan" i will always commit to explosions in the sky for having the best live show. i lived in austin a few years back and had plenty of chances to take people to eits shows, and the result was always the same. they would always come out in a quasi-daze and tell me that it was the closest thing they've had to a religious experience. i've seen mogwai once, and since it was at a SXSW showcase, it wasn't all that great. i hate all of you. i have seen neither mogwai or explosions. i was going to see mogwai once but my friend caused us to be late and i didn't get to see them. i hate her too. Mogwai was ridiculous. They'd build and build and then just explode and their light show went crazy. It was awesome in the word's truest meaning. ive seen mogwai and explosions live, and while explosions is totally amazing, nothing comes close to a mogwai show. definitely the most amazing live experience ive ever had. damn, Mogwai and Explosions are both fucking great bands. yo archie, how was mogwai? loud as balls? i'm always looking for when this band will be in atlanta but i'm always disappointed. hopefully one day soon they will play. they are a definate must see for me. hopefully i don't die any time soon. I would kill a nun for the chance to see Explosions in the Sky. |
