Exactly how I felt, Blake. There was once promise in music, our society, and humanity in general. But all that hope is fading fast. I've seen bands use what was once the most offensive type of music and exploit it into a money making, trend setting industry.

I have seen violence and hatred plauge our planet, our country, and yes, our neighbors. Everyone knows about the 'terrorist attacks' in New York, but few know about the Siek individual(which is a completely different religion than the Muslim faith) in Phoenix Arizona U.S.A., who was murdered simply because he resembled the attackers. It is this type of blind, ignorant violence that will eventually be the untimely end of humanity.

The intesity of this Jawbreaker album can only be paralleled by Earth itself. Aggressive and up-front often, but underlying and soft at times as well. Songs like 'Chesterfield King' will go down as one of the greatest love-songs off all time(in my book anyway), while others such as 'Donatello' reach deep into the realms of saddness. 'p.s.New York is burning' is disturbingly accurate, almost a decade in advace. It is a complete rollercoaster of human emotion, from depression to rock-stardom. In high school, I was sure I would be the one to write beautifully ugly songs, intensively disgusting and yet softly ellegant at the same time. To my disgression, it had already been done.

Little did Jawbreaker know that the sloppy, ear-aching sound they were playing would eventually be over-produced, capitolized, and distributed to the masses as 'emo'. However, they took the often stagnite punk rock sound to a whole new level of experimation, intesity, and emotion, while remaining raw and unscathed.

'Bivouac', what appears to be your average, run-of-the-mill punk record, is everything but that. An unpredictable, inventive, lyrically-genius album ahead of its time.

In a day where one sees eveything he wishes he didn't see, there is an answer...

What a lot of people don't seem to know is a lot of the lyrics on this album were written by Chris.
Oh no! Blake lost some hero worship!

    P.S.
Bivouac is the greatest song that has ever been or will be written.

This is the most ridiculous review ever.

Just for the record, I knew about the guy in Phoenix and love Jawbreaker. But holy shit. What a ridiculous review.

my idiot friend (big ataris fan) was playing the ataris in his car one day. i almost laughed when he said "listen to this song, the lyrics are fucking great". the song comes on and it's boxcar. i tell him that it's not their song, it's a jawbreaker song and he says "jawbreaker huh? they gotta be pretty cool with lyrics like that". a few days later he's driving in my car and i put on jawbreaker and turn it to boxcar and tell him to listen. this is what i got from him "the ataris version is better". i almost drove off the road when he said that. "what the hell? jawbreaker sings the song with raw passion while ataris just do a lame by the numbers cover". "whatever dude, just cuz it's the original doesn't mean it's better". "the ataris version has no heart". "yeah it's got good music instead". i swear to fucking god i wanted to kill the kid right then and there. my best friend is a fucking idiot. ah well, what can you expect from someone that listens to blink 182 and sum 41.

I like quite a few probably never heard of Jawbreaker, and if it wasn't for the Ataris and a couple reviews, I probably wouldn't be listening to them either.

And, even though the Ataris play some bubble-gum punk, it's still pretty good, and I thank them for helping me fine one kick ass band...jawbreaker

i wasn't bashing the ataris like most of the posts were. I've liked them for a while (althought I haven't listened to any of their albums in a good minute). They are a pretty good band, but htey need to expand their song writing a bit. I will say that one of my many punk show highlights was going fucking nuts at an Ataris show when they played 'Boxcar', while a bunch of clueless 15 year olds stood there asking themselves 'when are they gonna play San Dimas, man?' I felt like a king. Jawbreaker rules!. -fathead

You guys bash the Ataris a whole hell of a lot, give them some credit, Jawbreaker is one of their biggest influences. If you don't like the band, shut the hell up, and keep the opinion to yourself.

Yes. Great band. Very great band. The idiot who said they covered an Ataris song really needs to be slapped.

Also, the "over-produced, capitolized, and distributed to the masses 'emo'" that you speak of isn't even emo. Gosh I'm darn tired of explaining that to people. So just go to www.fourfa.com. That has all you need to know about what is really emo.
