Okay, so Paramore were sitting in the Fueled by Ramen corporate offices looking at different ways to make their latest record generate the most profit. After reviewing many possibilities, they developed Riot!. Here is an excerpt of their discussions:

the fact that anyone could like this is depressing. shit band, and a review thats almost as bad. but still a shti band. and anyone who likes them must be retarded. I love how all the people who disagree with the review put their review forward so well with an excellent grasp of English and a well developed argument. Ha! Love you review. Totally true. I hate how everyone loves them. I really dont see why. They sound like everything else... O whoops, I thought I was commenting on Fall Out Boy.. or was it Panic? O, its a girl singing.. I get it! The album was overall poor in my opinion.Their first release held water, and as probably one of few out of this orgy of doom that enjoyed Paramore's first album and saw them live supporting it, they did well, and the band was nice overall. paramores album riot is awesome. there music rocks. This album rocks! It's probably the best album I own. paramore is the bast band and this cd reates to my whole like at this time and i sometimes dont know what i would do without the cd to help[ me deal with the hard good sad happy ime i love pararmore and glad it around Wow the most stupidest review ever !!! paramore kiks ass their awsome!! album rocks... "Look at me! I'm retarted!" "Score is for Coldwaffles trying to make an impression on the punknews community." Look at me! I'm retarted! "There's more out there than just orgcore guys. Ugh." There's more out there than just orgcore guys. Ugh. where is the review? I downloaded this CD off a torrent and I haven't listened to all the songs yet. I really like "Misery Business" and "That's What You Get" a lot though. Of the bands I saw live at Warped Tour, Paramore was one of my favorites. pretty much sounds like kelly clarkson to me Told ya so. Scott is NOT stoked! Hey Scott- "You can be professional and still slam records. This review is just petty and throws around completely unfounded accusations. It makes Punknews look bad and amateurish. This review looks like it was written by a goth kid who attended my old high school. Score is for Coldwaffles trying to make an impression on the punknews community. Hey Scott- This band isn't very good. Come on punknews...maintain at least some sort of credibility. I'm not trying to stick up for Paramore - I don't like their music and probably will never listen to an album of theirs straight through - but they deserve a semi-serious review from a less biased reviewer. I understand that it's really cool to bash and hate bands that everyone else hates, but this is the best review you guys can put up there? It's a crime when bands like this are more popular than Fifth Hour Hero were, before they broke up. I say good on ya--although I think the idea was kinda lifted from the Pitchfork review of Louis XIV. Oh well--there's nothing new under the sun." Anyone think the cover rips No doubt Rock Steady? I thought the review was alright. How many different ways can you write a review of a record? Did you really want to read about their influences? Did you want to know what tracks were "killer?" You're being here pretty much guarantees you and all your beardo friends will hate this record...at least this way you got to think about the review itself instead of the album. I say good on ya--although I think the idea was kinda lifted from the Pitchfork review of Louis XIV. Oh well--there's nothing new under the sun. Hey champ, I know this CD is shit (although I'm about 1,000 percent sure they'll be on an AP cover in the next year assuming they haven't already). "- anonymous, yet still somehow the voice of the majority" I hate this band with a passion but this review's smug humor annoyed the shit out of me. Leave the trying-to-be-clever bad metaphors to pitchfork. This band is a lame christian pop group, on a formerly independent record label now owned by Warner Brothers, there is nothing remotely "punk" about Paramore, their "fans", or any of the morons who eat this shit up along side Ashlee Simpson or 50 Cent! If you can find a way to validate this band you should go to the nearest mall and practice self-immolation. "A perfectly valid criticism, and you would have been much better off actually writing a critical piece based off that -- not some juvenile joke review. That's all I'm sayin'. UMM, is this a review of an album or some pathetic attempt at witty humor? Heres a tip, if all the sentences in your review begin and end with quotation marks, you might want to start over again. "I don't like the band, but it could have at least gotten a review based on the actual tracks on the album. After all, isn't that what reviews are for? It isn't really the place to create some little scenario that's got nothing to do with the actual tracks. Not really helping someone who wants actual insight into the album." Jesus fuck, you guys. If you don't like this review, listen to the album, write up your own fucking review and submit it yourself. You're allowed to do that here, you know. I don't like the band, but it could have at least gotten a review based on the actual tracks on the album. After all, isn't that what reviews are for? It isn't really the place to create some little scenario that's got nothing to do with the actual tracks. Not really helping someone who wants actual insight into the album. this is not a review...you didnt even fucking review the album, you just made fun of paramore. there is only good and bad music fuck a genre discussion. I listen to plenty of music that isn't punk or whatever but this stuff is just garbage. There's more out there than orgcore, people. You don't have to like it, but you should realize that other people do. "my fault with this record is that it is a vocal pop record disguising itself as a "punk" record. it becomes really trite in that effort, and it comes off as fake, less of a record, more of a business move. the record itself is a solid, if really predictable pop record, but in respect to this site, i reviewed it as the punk record it wants to be." This is the worst review I've ever read on this site, and that's saying ALOT. I'm not a fan of this band, but this review is really fucking badly written. "There's more out there than orgcore, people. You don't have to like it, but you should realize that other people do." also, sorry im a little drunk. i forgot to mention that reviews and articles on here are and forever have been user submitted. therefore they represent different facets of what the community around here is about. maybe no one else submitted a review for this because no one that cares about submitting reviews cares about this band. scott, just because there's more out there than "orgcore" doesn't mean that every review on here only gives praise to "orgcore" and completely disregards anything else. i saw a positive review for 108 on here. and they are soooooo not "orgcore". shitty music is shitty music, thus shitty music gets shitty scores. what would you have rated this? and please let any tiny bit of credibility you had get thrown out the window for good. "I'm pretty embarrassed that a place as respected as Punknews would run a review this blatantly biased and hateful, though. Is professionalism too much to ask?" I think "music" like this is just a vehicle to enable these people to be seen hanging out with the weapons from good charlotte and fawl owt boi. i read this 3 times before i realized it said "come on TO hailey everynight at warped tour" i originally just thought it said "..come on.." that would have been funnier, and also a really true fact because i totally came on her in pittsburgh hahaha The review wasn't very well articulated but I believe made a valid point of the state that labels such as FUELED BY RAMEN and others which started with an indie/punk aesthetic and philosophy were swayed by dollar signs and the concept of releasing interesting art took back seat to pop-culture and maximizing profits. But let it be realized that FBR is not alone. There is a multitude of labels from TOOTH AND NAIL, VICTORY, etc... that have decided to ride down the wave of dollar signs and easy sells. Now, put yourself in their shoes, MAYBE you would do it too? Who is to say. But it is an interesting turn of events nevertheless and eventually a shift needs to occur where one is to question the motives of the marketers and try and cut through the noise to find the true inspired "art". Which then again, I can question myself and say "what is art? doesn't placing a word like VALID on art create elitism"? It does... but in the end one needs to just refocus and reclaim what PUNK is... it is not a genre of music, but more of an ethic and way of life... a refusal of accepting overly marketed things and focusing on community and a true economic model that does not need to depend on any multi-national affiliation. PUNK started as a genre but then quickly became two things - an ethics-related movement with many sub-movements.. and a word for marketing rebellion. Pick you side and follow with pride. - Demosthenes Exuse the typos in the comment below. I was really surprised by how well they played at Warped. Seriously, they put were one the tightest bands that played. "I'm pretty embarrassed that a place as respected as Punknews would run a review this blatantly biased and hateful, though. Is professionalism too much to ask?" Terrible music. this is everything that is wrong with music today. and to all the people bringing up how "young" the band is... why does that come into how the album is scored? an album that sucks still sucks no matter how old the makers of it are. stop defending the shitty music cause you think you have a shot at getting your dong wet with the singer. which you don't. this band is a blackhole of suck. I hope their fans get eaten by penguins So, Avril or Hayley? My nut's on Avril, the Paramore chick kinda screams jailbait. Yeah, I'd sooner join absolutepunk than punkbands.com punkbands.com! HA HA HA! Get the fuck outta here douche, no one takes your shitty site serious. Not like anyone really takes this one serious either, but it still has way more credibility than yours. It's better than my review: "I personally love "That's What You Get". . . that's about it. The Score is for Hayley's orange pubic hairs." "Hallelujah," "Born For This" and "Misery Business" are all great pop songs. The rest is pretty forgettable, though. its really not bad. nothing groundbreaking, but some fun songs cheers. I thought the review I wrote at punkbands.com was rough. you may have out done me. good work! I realized that the song I liked wasn't a Paramore song at all. It was a Lydia song. "Hallelujah," "Born For This" and "Misery Business" are all great pop songs. The rest is pretty forgettable, though. ... and infact, this disc would probably get two more stars if it said KELLY CLARKSON on the front. not that i think hailey is as good of a singer. and this wasn't done with humor in mind, rather, it was the best way to express how i felt. "The reviewer is a douche hey btw extremely dumb review buddy...Not a great record but i will sell well. Last time I checked how young is this band? What a terrible review. On one of the songs they throw in a subtle little Refused rip off (although im sure they'd call it a tribute) from the Shape of punk to come...lame. Wow, this review was stupid. It wasn't funny at all. If you thought it was funny, you must be slow-witted. Fucking idiot. I was surprised when I read this entire review only to find it contained no humor. Reviews on this site are bogus. Either they're fanboy gushing or its crap like this where the person "reviewing" the CD obviously hates the band or genre to begin with and is just venting. I don't like this band, but this review was crap. hah that was great review. No one would care about these hacks if this girl didn't put out on a regular basis. that's the biggest piece of crap and lies i've ever read. i met paramore and they were nice geniune people...this review makes them look like idiot teenagers who don't put passion into their music...and if you really did research on the song meanings and backgrounds you'd realize they're the complete opposite of what this piece portrays them as. I enjoyed one song from their prior release, and I think it's ebcause I was in a real sappy mood. Score is for your girl slurping MY noodle! score is for the noodle slurpage. my chick likes this band. i had to sit through one of their songs and pretend it wasn't as awful as it really was. whatever it takes to get my noodle slurped i guess. the Hanson of punk. "surprised they arent on a major." so where was the review? you do realize they are just kids anyway. The reviewer is a douche sort of like you with my MCR reviews eh? Great review, horrilble band! I didn't even want to hear what it sounds like. Nice! remember when Vinny ran FBR? All these "postitive" comments in a row must be one pissed off Paramore fanboy. When people want to see paramore more than bad religion, the world is in need of some help All these "postitive" comments in a row must be one pissed off Paramore fanboy. This is just about the most ignorant review of an album I've read this year. Review is probably too harsh. These kids may not be your thing, but they're pretty earnest and Hayley is adorable. Score is for the review/reviewer. It's remarkable how he criticizes Fueled By Ramen and Paramore for the opportunity to sell records and reap long-term profits. Your review could pertain to any band wishing to establish a career predominantly because eventually, one objective for artists is to bring more awareness to their brand (or in this case, band). Moreover, have you considered that Paramore possibly desires to play and takes pleasure in the music they are recording and releasing? Close-minded douchebag... ugh, terrbile, although Im looking forward to the new Eisley-oldpunker- Fuck this review. The band and the new album are great! ;) Wow. This album is a step up from the last one, and the songs rule. The band is tight as hell live. Bashing a band like Paramore to look cool is like kicking a puppy to look hard. ooooooooooh man this band is my guiltiest pleasure ever, and i really just dont care. This band and album are lame, and it seems like it's meant for high school kids, mainly. Haha, great review, this shit sucks ass. You can tell this review would have been exactly the same regardless of what's on the CD. i don't hate this cd at all. it is fun, and i absolutely love the second track, but it totally comes off as fake, and corporate. surprised they arent on a major. I get the review but listen to it for what it is: Fun. Saw them at Warped, at the risk of coming off like a complete douche, I atually enjoyed their set. Their, I said it, they're good live. Reviews on this site are bogus. Either they're fanboy gushing or its crap like this where the person "reviewing" the CD obviously hates the band or genre to begin with and is just venting. this band is a joke. the video for whatever single is on this album plays non-stop it seems like at my gym |
