Grave Mistake Records recently dropped a trio of 7-inches that raise a golden finger-point to `80s hardcore. We'll look at them one by one every so often for the next couple weeks or so (unless reviews become desperate and doubling up is a passable option).

Time to Escape is perhaps the harshest of the three. Originally pressed as a limited demo, it's a good thing these songs got a more widespread issue, because they could rip fucking holes in the universe. Time to Escape derive from D.C. and subsequently get a lot of comparisons to early locale like Government Issue (whose song title their very name derives from) and the Faith. This isn't completely off, but I think Time to Escape are way more intense than either here. There's a more screamed vocal fronting the band's terrorizing, blast-off tunes, for one thing. However, the band does have a sense of humor. Somewhere on Side B is a jokey, pop'n'roll riff that shows they aren't completely humorless.

Helping authenticate this 7" is a black and white insert and nicely raw coating on the songs that wrap up Time to Escape as a near artifact. In any event, it's a notable one.

this is the only one of the three records of which you speak I don't have. Score is for record labels like Grave Mistake, No Way, Fashionable Idiots, Deranged, Feral Ward etc.

There is so much of this stuff coming out...Double Negative, Wasted Time, Government Warning, actual punk bands...maybe you guys should review more of this stuff! The way I see it, a review for a 7" by a band like this is a hell of alot more worthwhile than a fan-canned 6 month old Clipse review! Oh, and this record rips!

It's gotten to the point where I buy basically anything that this label puts out. However, I haven't gotten around to this one yet and from thsi review it looks like I need to.
