| Lifetime / Shook Ones / Sinking Shipslive in Portland2007 live show Review by: colin See others by this writer Shameless self promotion and/or more photos. (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on September 11th 2007
The only thing that really made this show a bummer was the extended amount of time between sets. This was a show for Music Fest Northwest, three days here in Portland where a zillion bands play at venues all over town. It works like this: Bands go on at the hour every night across the board. This means you can see a Band A at Venue X at 8, Band B at Venue Y at 9, and Band C at Venue Z at 10. It's a simple and good formula for a festival, but not for this type of show, as the bands performing are used to sub-30 minute sets.

smelltheglove yes THANKS EVERYONE knows that. AND HEY, one of the song titles on their first EP is a palindrome, too! Make fun of me if you want, but am I the only one who liked Lifetime for a long time before he noticed it was Young, Loud and Scotty and not Snotty? don't know if this is common knowledge, but the band So Many Dynamos have a palindrome for their name. dr awkward is the bees knees, though. They only played a little less than 30 minutes? That really sucks, especially since they were the headliner. Shook Ones sound exactly like Lifetime's music with Kid Dynamite's vocals to me "If I went to a Lifetime / Shook Ones / Sinking Ships show, I'd have to make sure that it wasn't just the same band going up to play different songs each set." Uh oh, them posting my Souls/Lifetime/Ergs!! review aint lookin so good now! Hey mr. reviewer, there are a lot of good shows in Portland that are not bro-core, they just mostly take place in basements and bars. Here are some bands you may want to check out: Sleepwalkers RIP, Defect Defect, Muckracker, Dispossessed, Nix, Autistic Youth, Red Dons, Ethopian Children, The Crawlers, Warcry, Sex Vid, Tragedy, Flip Tops, Clorox Girls, or just go to pc-pdx.com for shows. Big = better, no resizing necessary If I went to a Lifetime / Shook Ones / Sinking Ships show, I'd have to make sure that it wasn't just the same band going up to play different songs each set. ... nor can I compete by correctly spelling awkwardly, apparently. fuck, i knew i should have resized the photos for this article but i almost thought the 'org was gonna do that sort of thing. my bad on that shit dudes. what would make you want to go to rock n' roll pizza? Rock n' Roll pizza is Gresham, anything past about 100th can't be included. Trevor, you just named my next synth-pop ironicore band. ... nor can I compete by correctly spelling awkwardly, apparently. There is most definitely plenty of bro-core in Portland, read: the bands that are booked at Rock n' Roll pizza. I was bummed Bouncing Souls dropped off the lineup for this show. They played Bumbershoot and were originally going to play this show too but then they cancelled. out of all the shows i saw over the weekend at musicfest, lifetime was unfortunately the most disappointing...yemen seemed completely uninterested in putting on a decent show, and the opening bands blew them off the stage. I like the addition of photos. I do think Lifetime is incredibly over-rated, however. ... nor can I compete by correctly spelling awkwardly, apparently. No wonder my review for this show in Seattle didn't get posted. I can't compete with awkwardlly-sized photos! |
