I blew it. Big time. I was all ready to set my alarm for some ridiculous time to get tickets for what might have been the show of the year (for New Jerseyians, anyway): the Bouncing Souls and Lifetime in New Brunswick. But apparently the link/time to get the 100-ish tickets let out to the public was in a Bouncing Souls MySpace bulletin. C’mon guys, I go on MySpace for music news the same way I used to come here for anonymous comments. So I had to downgrade to a 2,000 capacity gig in Philly.
It was cute they played "Lifetime," which was the first time I ever heard it live, and "Cracked" was one I haven’t heard for a while, which always gives the floor-punchers a sense of entitlement. My only complaint was them erroneously playing "That Song" too fast for its own good; its melody took a backseat to the ferocious drumming making the whole band look confused. When the Souls came back for the encore, the emotional connection with the crowd was at its peak, with a certain stillness taking over not normally seen in punk rock during "Anchors Aweigh." Afterward they did their guitarmageddon schtick during "True Believers" with none other than Dan Yemin and a visibly intoxicated Dave Hause (it is Philly, after all). They ended with their most underrated song, "Night on Earth," and all was said and done. I’d like for them to change up their set list from show to show a little more, but any 24 Bouncing Souls songs would make a fine set list. Set list:

That's one hell of a lineup. They should bring this over to Socal. Night On Earth is a great song, but I feel that their most underrated song is "The Freaks, Nerds, and Romantics." Isn't wasn't even included in their list of 40 best Bouncing Souls song voting thing that they had on their myspace a few weeks back... Long set up times. Reminds me of the last time i saw bad religion... i never get tired of seeing the souls I don't really care for The Bouncing Souls much at all, but Lifetime is sick nasty; the Ergs have some catchy songs. They started with hopeless romantic when i saw them as well Does anyone know if Greg Plays bouncing souls songs at those acoustic shows Well if you see a skinny dork with a crimson ghost and black flag on the back of his leather jacket, that woud be me. Brian, are you going to the NYC show? I know I am. That's funny about the long setting up times, i saw the aggrolites and they took over an hour, the crowd were getting pissed off Once in a while he comes down with lead singeritius. let me get this straight, Greg had energy??????? To feeeding5000: Amazing show. So much fun. I had JUST moved to Philly from Los Angeles, and this show was just what I needed. yo skankbook, the souls did mention that tour. They said thank you to lifetime for bringing them on that tour because it was their first tour. And also, to the guy who wrote this review, you should have went to the brunswick show. It wasnt sold out, they had about 30 extra tickets at the door (i got mine when they had 12 left) and also people were selling them outside. And plus they played asbury lanes that week too, except for without lifetime. All the shows were good, but the lanes show was the best. "Too many punk bands try to be rock stars and make you wait upwards of 40 minutes (looking at you, Rancid)." "I think my brother caught Lifetime and Bouncing Souls on tour in California iaround 1993. I still have his copy of "The Green Ball Crew". Did either band mention this tour? It must have been one of the first tours for both bands." That's defintely the generic Bouncing Souls setlist, but if they played that same set every show, I'd still go once a year. I think my brother caught Lifetime and Bouncing Souls on tour in California iaround 1993. I still have his copy of "The Green Ball Crew". Did either band mention this tour? It must have been one of the first tours for both bands. Ergs bassist has a nice style, always like seeing those guys wish i could have been there. sounds awesome. Brian, are you going to the NYC show? I know I am. such a better souls setlist than the june tour So stupidly stoked for the Souls / Lifetime / MLIW show here. |
