I decided about a year ago to buy a cd that no one has heard in my town. It makes me feel good to hear fresh bands, and be the first one to tell people about them. I browsed through the "Pop/Rock" section and the blue cover caught my eye. I picked it up, and noticed the label "Drive-Thru Records" so since I am a fan of the label I bought this cd. As soon as the first song popped on in my car I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This cd is definetely the cd where pop and punk fans can agree. Everything is in the singers voice as he sometimes has that "I don't give a shit," punk attitude, and then breaks into more of a "poppy" sound. The guitar riffs are absolutely amazing, and tend to remind me of "Millincolin." The most refreshing thing about this album is the fact that the lyrics are not just centered on one thing. He mostly just talks about life in general. These guys also seem to play harder then a lot of Pop/Punk bands out there. Instead of strumming the guitar they play it with extreme energy, and the drumming is like no other. Fast, energetic, meaningful, creative, original, and just plain good music. The best songs on this album are: "Direction, "Knew it all Along" "Just Rock and Roll," and "Let Go." Yes I bought this album a year ago, and your probably wondering why I'm reviewing it now. Why? Because after a year, I'm still listening to it. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
yeah dude! right on with the review. Midtown has alot to say and they make it said with really punked out tunes. "Knew it all along" is as powerful as Stalin. These dudes rock so hard. rock on. Fuck Haters. ehh, cheesy emo shit. when is all this emo pandemonium going to fade out??? only song that stood out and actually showed their instrument ability is recluse. someone needs to give the guy below a big kiss. degenerate is a fucking faggot does he know how it fucking hurts when you loose a girl, or find out they don't like you when your like fuckin in love with them?? He probably some fucking womanizing dumbass. Why these guys cant be happy at saving the world, is anybodys guess? man if i saved the world i'd be like all over the newspapers and on tv. i wouldnt care about the girl. Well maybe when i'm recieving my 'worlds greatest guy' medal i might give her one thought, who knows. Fuck this shit!I like a band for their music, not their fucking label. Come on little kids, lets get a life here.(By the way punk is dead, get over it)!!! so drive thru is gay. i didnt know that writing music about girls was gay. you're a fucking idiot I just wanted to quickly mention that I really hate the cover art, and the booklet stuff. It makes the band look like their Coldplay, or Radiohead, or some band like that. So that's why I gave it a four. The CD I'd give a 10, like I've mentioned a few entries down. Well ok so now people are gay for listening to a certain kind of music... well isnt that the most intellegent thing ive heard all day. Jesus christ its all opinion.. doesnt ANYBODY get that. Midtown is a band that some people like and some people dont like.. i happen to like them. For people that like them good for you.. for people that dont good for you too you have your own opinion but to come on here and say that a band is "gay" and that a label is "gay" and that fans of certain bands are "gay" is just totally stupid... get over yourself and realize there is more to life than what you enjoy. "THE REAL MEANING OF A GOOD DRIVE THRU" Dont worry RIGHTCLIQUE we dont expect you to buy this. Anyway how do you know it caters to the gay society. Just wonderin... Good band, good cd, good label. Thats all I have to say, and to everyone else who feels like arguing CHEZZZZ I saw fenix tx with blink 182 on that tour they did. remember? yeah, that one. the controversial one. well, i thought i was seeing fenix tx anyway. they were supposed to be first. but apparently blink 182 played first instead, followed by this really fucking badass band that we all know and love, and then blink 182 played again. whats that all about? y'all see what i'm getting at here? somebody earlier said that fenix tx's first record was "way mo better" than their second record. fenix tx's first record left me believing that they should not be called fenix tx, but rather blink 183, cuz they sound way too damn much like blink, which is not a good thing. next, their follow-up record sounded like a totally different band. a totally different band totally sucked in a totally different way. i'm not impressed. and the guy at the beginning of this who said NFG is good must be confused about his sexuality cuz if ever there was a gayer band than new found glory, i'd kill myself. not that there's anything wrong with being gay, its just not my thing and i don't enjoy incredibly gay music, but everybody knows by now that drive-thru is a label that has no problem catering to the needs of the gay community, and for that, they should be commended, but just don't expect straight people, such as myself, to buy it. "drive-thru is for those without taste. and the only label that's worth getting a random CD on is Saddle-Creek, no crap there...yet" I first heard of Midtown on the Warped Tour '01 compilation with their song, "Get it Together," and I couldn't stop listening to it. I absolutely love it, and so I had to get the CD, and wasn't dissapointed. It rocks! drive-thru is for those without taste. and the only label that's worth getting a random CD on is Saddle-Creek, no crap there...yet nice snappy comeback there, boy.... actually, i have taken the time to listen to some of drive-thru's records, and guess what? i still didn't like 'em! get over it! Hey everyone this is not a review for drive-thru. Oh and this is to theboywhocriedangel: its called the wonderful world of getting a life. If you hate this record company so much then did you ever consider not listening to their records. Whoa. i started listening to midtown before they were ever signed to drive thru and i still love them today. who really cares how the reviewer found this cd anyway? why should it matter? no one cares if you people hate the label either. no one ever told you that you had to like it. who cares? the fact is midtown is a good band that plays good music. So I have been to a drive through before and actually it wasn't that bad. The service was great and the food wasn't that bad either. I had a double cheeseburger, fries, and a strawberry milkshake. It was very good and quite fast as it only took about 3 minutes to get our order. And get this, we didn't even have to get out of the car. I don't know what you guys are arguing about, Drive-thru is one of the most phenomenal and unbelievebly great things to happen to our generation. Peace out. Frank Sinatra Rules!!! aw, look everybody! the reviewer is crying because i don't like the bands on drive-thru! actually, to be honest, friend, i do own a copy of that horrible "you'll never eat fast food again" compilation, but only because it has the wrens on it. so go figure. and the wrens aren't even that great anyway, which leads me to believe that i wasted my money, even for such a meager $3.99, or however much i paid for the damn thing. oh, look, the wonderful world of HAVING YOUR OWN MIND. please don't get your new found glory buddies after me! "Punk rock version of O-Town, bleh." I mean, i put this cd on, i cant take it out of the player, and i try, i try to, because i want to listen to something else for a change but i just cant do it, these boys are very pretty. whoops sorry about the double there. Late. -Rock Actually I'm quite afraid. I'm afraid of some of the people that are out in this world. That comment below me was probably the most outrageous comment on this board. I bet you would like a lot of record companies to just dissapear randomly. Well let me tell you something. Not everyone listens to the same music we do. I respect every band whether I like them or not. You what the funny thing is for all you haters of Drive-Thru: DRIVE-THRU DOESNT CARE WHAT YOU THINK. And that is the beauty of music. I like Drive-Thru. So What of it???? -Rock okay, i'll just finish this lame debate, since you people are just going in circles, saying the same repetitive swill over and over: boycott drive-thru records! trends in music are not a good idea! then again, generic pop-punk is not a good idea! drive-thru is a corporate, "safe" version of "punk rock"! drive-thru is the devil! it will rape your soul! be afraid! be very afraid! i don't own my own computer, i only bash bands that suck, and i'm 4 years into the drums, so you'll hear from my band soon enough...dick.- fathead oh yeah, and student rick doesnt rip off just midtown, they rip off some old saves the day too, geesh. sorry to all you 15 yr old punks, but student rick is victorys lame attempt to put a bland unoriginal, and unexciting popunk band on the charts and make themselves some money. No, it is not a lame comment, because it is STUPID to buy something because it is on a specific label without checking out what the band sounds like first. now, there are instances where if jade tree signs a melodic hardcore band, im almost positive ill like it, because they generallyn have good taste in that genre, but if they sign a band, i have no clue what they sound like, and all i know is theyre on jade tree, i wont get it until i learn more about it. granted, this may be different, because if you like newfoundglory a ton, and lack of originality doesnt matter to you, then youll love everything on drivethru, so i guess it does make sense. This band is brutal, don't waste your money on this album. To the person below me: I agree with almost every word you said exept for the comment about "Starting Line," who just plain rocks. Their still in high school which is unbelievable. Everyone check out this band they definetely deserve attention. Oh yeah "Student Rick" was mentioned. I suggest everyone check them out if they like "Midtown." One of the singers voice reminds me of Joey Cape from "Lagwagon" Since we are debating about how much we like/hate drive thru records, I thought I would put my two cents in. They have some good bands, i.e. Rx Bandits and something vorporate. Midtown is ok and the new demo they released from the upcoming homegrown album sounds pretty good. Yet at the same time they have bands that leave alot to be desired. The starting Line just suck, Fenix Tx is getting worse, Allister is nothing great and they absolutley ruined one of my favorite bands, the movielife. The new ep they put out on drive thru completley sucks. Its as if they have been drive thru-ized. The edge and uniquness of that band was completely lost in the lable switch. It is the biggest disapointment of the year for me. Midtown is pretty decent. Fenix Tx first album was better than the second. "yeah, i dont know why anyone would buy something solely because it was on drivethru." This album is pretty good. Midtown is a sweet band, and Fenix Tx's first album was much better then there 2nd dipshit. And to Fathead, I think you spend way to much fucking time on your computer, if you criticize so many bands, how about you form a band and lets hear how great you guys are....fag I hate Drive-Thru records. But then again i dont see what the big deal is if the reviewer bought a cd because it was on a certain label. When i go out to buy cds if im a fan of a certain label such as "Victory" and i see a new band then i usually come to the conclusion it could be a good band if its on a label that i like. ITS COMMON SENSE AND I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THE WHOLE "OH YOU BOUGHT IT BECAUSE OF THE LABEL, THATS NOT THE RIGHT WAY TO BUY MUSIC" IS ACTUALLY A REALLY UNINTELLEGENT REMARK. To the idiot who said student rick ripped off midtown , if you don't know the bands or their stories keep your fucking mouth shut. Midtown helped student rick get signed and are good friends with them and so what if some bands sound the same they could have similar influences and maybe student rick was influenced by midtown. hey moron "above me", Midtown is decent. they played pretty well at warped tour, and the songs i've heard are ok. fenix tx's new album is GOD-AWFUL. they were'nt terrible at warped either, but their new cd is SHIT! nothing on driv-thru records is as good as the hype that surrounds it.- fathead To the guy below me the reviewer did not state anything about buying because it was on drive thru they just said they like the label. Midtown is awesome. yeah, i dont know why anyone would buy something solely because it was on drivethru. This band plays good music. Im a huge fan. Plus theyre nice guys. ...and noticed the label "Drive-Thru Records" so since I am a fan of the label I bought this cd. Oooh. Plugging your guitar in and not plugging it in -- how extreme!!! What will this highly innovated and advanced band of giggling she-boys think of next??? I can't agree more, I too still listen to this CD constanly, over a year and half after I bought it (HA, I'm better than you). But to th guy who said fenix is getting better, man you have bad taste in music, fenix tx got shitty the second they changed thier name from riverfenix. This band is horrible... This album kicks ass. You need to pick up the first EP and find some of the rare mp3's floating around. They got some acoustic stuff floating around too. When a band can do extremems like play acoustic then pick up there electric guitars and just freakin rock out you know they have to be on the right track. New album is high anticipated. Should be out early next year from the looks of it. Good album, the three singers is kinda original. If you want to listen to a band that Rips Midtown off large.....check out Student Rick on Victory records Good cd, one of the best pop/punk/rock bands out there. They know how to put on a live show This CD is good and they are kinda boy-bandish (word?) but they rock pretty hard for a pop-punk band. And about Drive Thru, The Movielife are also an awesome band on the food label. Punk rock version of O-Town, bleh. Damn your right i didnt know what i just said. and your also right on the fact that i said "he" throughout the whole review (twice). But hey i didnt count. To be perfectly honest i did know. I don't think you did know. You kept saying 'he' throughout the review. Sorry for the mistake i did actually know that there were more than one singer i just forgot to mention the fact that more than one singer in a band is cool as hell. I enjoy pop-punk, but I can't stand this band. I love this band. They're like the indie rock version of Third Eye Blind. A definite guilty pleasure. yay, me got first comment! |
