It always amazes me that when people talk about hardcore, they've never heard Gang Green before. To me, this band, and more specifically the material on this album (recorded from 1981-1984) is pretty much the pinnacle of hardcore. It's loud, it's fast and it sounds somehow reckless and violent.

This band equals Bad Brains for raw energy in some songs. In fact, I think they might even surpass them. The recording quality is incredibly low, the instrumentation is very basic and some of the vocals are nearly inaudible...yet, this, to me, is definitive hardcore. It's young, angry kids making the loudest, fastest music ever put on record. This band was a big inspiration for me and for a lot of my friends, as well.

The songs "Rabies" and "Kill a Commie" are the best on the album in my opinion. The album is very short (10 tracks totaling 14 minutes), extremely raw and undoubtedly hardcore.

x Gang Green and x Stompbox members unite for new release. Download the new single, "FIRST NICKEL" BY NUNS OF PUNK. https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/nunsofpunk . This ripping track features Erich Thaler of Stompbox with Glen and Chuck Stilphen from the Alcohol / Another Wasted Night-era of Gang Green.

somebody needs to review another wasted night on this website. that is by far the greatest album to come out of boston EVER

    BrandonSideleau (December 24, 2008)

It's a decent record....but as someone earlier said it isn't as good as some of the other more intense stuff coming out during the time. A good listen for sure, but there are numerous much better bands from the period.

a few months back, they played where i work.

    - they double booked shows without telling the first promoter

    - they played the same song 3.5 times out of drunkness

    - the singer leaped off stage onto a guy and started to attack him, because he wanted one more song at the end. it was like " come on man, one more song" - " you want one more song " then he jumped off and punched the dude

    - asked for blow straight out of the van

    - and more

Is there any value in this album over the epic "This is Boston, Not LA" which includes most of the material anyway?

    LushJ (December 21, 2008)

Definitely! Another Wasted Night took the cool stuff from this & made a classic record.

Don't get me wrong, the stuff here is good, but do yourself a favor & skip this. Instead, get "This Is Boston Not LA" (where all but 2 of these tunes are from) and finding the other awesome bands on that- specifically The Freeze, FUs, Proletariat, Jerry's Kids...

Wow, I might have to write another review. This is awful.

    the_other_scott (December 19, 2008)

this review is like this record.

short, sloppy, assualting on the senses, and not nearly as good as the other stuff from that time.

but yeah, its still doesn't suck.

    skankin_in_the_pit (December 19, 2008)

    Essential cover, essential album.

    Gang Green is #100.
