Some things in life no one will ever understand... LIKE WHY NO ONE EVER WROTE A REVIEW AT THIS SITE ON THIS CLASSIC ALBUM ... Totally unbelievable... NOFX' best album ever is totally ignored by the punknews.org community? How can this be, is this real, why? I'll try to explain why I'm so shocked, confused, devastated, traumatized and upset about this.

So say hello to the next thing you're going to spend your money on: the "White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean LP" by NOFX, that's if you don't already own this masterpiece...

This probably is NOFX' darkest album, the sound is pretty hardcore and not too produced, still very melodic and funny, even though some of the lyrics are more based on personal experiences than on any other album of them... Still there's the right balance between funny songs and the more serious ones, which was there on "Punk in Drublic" too and wasn't there on "Pump Up The Valuum".

In my opinion, this album contains some of the best songs they ever wrote, classics like "Bob", "Liza and Louise", "Stickin' In My Eye" and "Please Play This Song On The Radio". All the songs on the album are a personal favorite of mine, exept for "I Wanna Be Your Baby", which I can't stand for some reason... Too slow I think...

This is probably the most diverse NOFX album you can buy. The first two songs: "Soul Doubt" and "Stickin' in My Eye" are fast, melodic songs with great lyrics. What is also noticed from the start of the cd is El Hefe's addition in the sound of NOFX, the man is a great on lead guitar. Bob is one of those songs that stands totally out of the rest with some of the best sing-a-long lyrics ever written, a classic punkrock song with some awesome ska interludes in it and El Hefe playing the trumpet.
Then the more serious "You're Bleeding" followed by "Straight Edge" an awesome Minor Threat cover with Hefe on vocals and could be played in a sleezy nightclub somewhere, which blasts into another NOFX classic: "Liza and Louise", with the legendary lyrics:

"Now with her legs spread wider
She needed to have Louise inside her
She said, "I'll never forget the first time you kissed me,
Now I want you to fist me."

Then Fat Mike's unpolished, snotty vocals will tell you his vision on society with lyrics that are very good in "The Bag".

Up next is "Please Play This Song On The Radio", an hilarious, sarcastical parody on the overproduced music played on the radio. Followed by "Warm" again containing well thought out lyrics and "I Wanna Be Your Baby" on which I've commented already. Then Johnny Appleseed is again funny as hell with for the second time Hefe on vocals telling you the story of Johnny Appelseed who plants a seed in every town he visits, which is actually about Erik Melvin, what you already knew ofcourse.
Then the pretty emotional "She's Gone" starts out for the last dosage of NOFX' familiar punkrock. And then the ending, what can I say? I told you the songs with Hefe on vocals sounded totally different from the rest? Well check this one out, "Buggley Eyes". Just awesome!

And then there's the end of a masterpiece, but no need to cry, push play again, and again, and again, and ag.... This is one of those records I (and probably you too) will never get tired of, it's in my collection for years now and I still play it very often...

The only conclusion I can think of after listening to this record over and over again and all the other NOFX releases, is that this is definitely their best. It rocks hard and probably won't let you down...

If you've read this review and still think this album won't fit your taste, that's because of my fucked up writing skills, but hey, you guys forced me... Why didn't someone write a review on a masterpiece like this, and why did you all make a fuck-up like me write this stupid review?? Damn...

And about spelling mistakes and such, I'm from the netherlands, I talk Dutch so I DO NOT CARE...

the heaviest NOFX album (in terms of subject matter) is Heavy Petting Zoo. This is a great album and a perfect bridge between 'Ribbed' and 'Punk In Drublic'.

This is the best album ever. The mix between punk, ska and comedy is well balanced, and the riffs are very snappy. I was told that 'Punk in Drublic' was the best NOFX album, but that's not true. This is a sharper album - a Best Buy.

this is the best nofx album i've ever heard, maybe tied with heavy petting zoo. anyway, with that said, "the bag" is by far the best song on the album. i think it's one of the most emotional songs i've ever heard during that part with the two separate guitar parts and he's talking about "give me something..." good music.

"Punky" are you kidding me? I hope so. Punk in Drublic is one of NOFX's softest. There is not one hard song on the cd (well maybe one) It is an amazing cd but not hard. White trash has a couple hard songs but i love it and it is my fav. cd.

Dude, I really don't know about this album being their "Darkest." Their older stuff is darker, and some of the stuff off Heavy Petting Zoo is pretty dark too. However, in analyzing the "darkness" of this album, TooDrunkToFuck calls "I Wanna Be Your Baby" a funny song. It's funny?? It's not funny at all! It's a really dark song. It's all about how he wants to crawl back inside and be all reclusive... it's really dark. It's probably the most personal song Fat Mike ever wrote. How can you call it funny?

liberal animation is harder, you're right, i listened to it once, at a friend's place... i thought it sucked and forced myself to ignore it... i do think the lyrics are funny... still i don't think it was worth my money to buy the cd, and worth the money of an empty tape...

the hardest and best nofx album so far is animal liberation.
the thing is that fat mike, over time, has changed his thoughts about a bunch of the lyrics on that album so they dont play many of the songs...so perhaps u dont know it

Yeah, this is a good album. Give it a listen. Umm, I don't really like giving album's scores, it takes me a long time to see where I would put it in comparison with other albums that I have rated. And I don't remember what scores I give to other one...and blah blah blah. Whatever.

If you like this, I recommend you check out some Fat Wreck Chords stuff. Of course, if you're on this page, you probably knew that.

    My Score:

    1) First of all, I have to disagree when you say that Punk In Drublic and White Trash has the right balance of funny songs to serious songs and PUTV doesn't? I figure that the only tracks on Punk In Drublic that are "funny" are My Heart Is Yearning and Jeff Wears Birkenstocks; only 2 out of 18 tracks. On the other hand, White Trash has 6 out of its 13 tracks that are "funny" - Straight Edge, Liza And Louise, Please Play This Song On The Radio, I Wanna Be Your Baby, Johnny Appleseed, and Buggley Eyes. PUTV has 6 out of its 14 tracks that are "funny" - And Now For Something Completely Similar, What's The Matter With Parents Today?, Louise, Pharmacist's Daughter, My Vagina, and Theme From A NOFX Album. By the way, my definition of "funny" is that the song is just straight up comedy - there is no message or main point in the song. For example, I wouldn't really call a song like Thank God It's Monday 100% "funny" because Fat Mike does have something to say there, he isn't just trying to make you laugh.

    2) Although I really do like the El Hefe songs, (they are very clever and display a differnt kind of humour from Fat Mike's) I find that they do not really stand the test of time. I just get sick of having to listen to (for example) Louis Armstrong singing Minor Threat every time I throw in the CD, and the El Hefe songs eventually end up as the ones I always skip over while listening to the CD. I must admit that they are very funny and clever, but they lack the depth and meaning necessary to immortalize a song.

    3) I can't believe that you don't like I Wanna Be Your Baby! I think it is one of the better songs on this CD. Fat Mike wants to crawl into someone 's womb and be their baby...HAHAHA....I like it.

    4) I wouldn't say this is their darkest and most hardcore album, there are way to many funny songs on here to make it dark or hardcore. I find that the 3 El Hefe songs make this album pretty light and fluffy.

I must agree with you that this is one of their better albums though (I think So Long their best - songs like Punk Rock Elite, 180 Degrees and The Desparation's Gone still amaze to this day), songs like Soul Doubt, Stickin' In My Eye, and You're Bleeding are awesome!
