| Brand Newlive in Philadelphia2009 live show Review by: JackeeSad See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on July 17th 2009
As many bands have a moniker indicative of a myriad of implications, often in terms of clichés, an ironic contender, or perhaps maybe an appropriate contender, hailing (or maybe as evoked by their songs "sailing") from the shores of Long Island -- appearing on the crest of a wave jumping up from the Schuylkill River and across Kelly Drive -- Brand New arrives, ever loyal to their name in spite of, or maybe in conjunction with, their longevity, as evidenced by their performance at the North Star Bar July 10, 2009. Their set list surely was an indicator as to their collective attitude as musicians -- how many times have you gone to a show where you screamed for an old favorite and they just got pissy about it? Well, this was NOT the case for Brand New at the Northstar, with a set list that spanned their entire career (and a couple of other bands' careers) they showed the audience the difference between musical maturity/evolution and forced musical reinvention. Brand New still doesn't believe in filler (baby) and the songs they played on the tenth shows they carry that logic everywhere they go.

Who closes with a cover? "Who needs Weezer when you have Brand New covering Weezer?!" Sounds like an awesome show, but oh my god was that review mealy-mouthed. How about, "Never use a long word where a short word will suffice"? Lose the rambling sentences to make your reviews a little less confusing. I called pufferfish an eazyd2 wannabe one time and he had no idea who I was talking about. Whatta n00b. Did they have lyric sheets for sale at the merch table? Score is for using Jawn in your review. You're from Philadelphia, we get it. Holy shit. It's so rare that a band performs my actual favourite songs by them. I only truly love 13 Brand New songs and they managed to play 10 of them that night... and only 4 others of their own material? (New songs excluded.) And Flying at Tree Level's not even on a full-length. That's pretty fucking amazing, percentage-wise. Being at this show would have blown my fucking mind. Just... mathematically... this is really impressive. Shit. That's a pretty awesome set list. Only thing really missing is Soco Amaretto Lime Love this band, can't wait to see them again. Wish they had those new songs written back when I did. I heard a live recording of "Trees" and it was fucking amazing. Um, interesting review. run on sentences rule like so much don't they because they just go on and on and your eyes get bored of them when it just runs on and on and on. "But I just hate Brand New and wanted to punch you in the face for that sentence." Pretentiousness =/= good writing. Seriously. This review just makes you look silly. Nice to see you kept that thesaurus you had to buy in middle school, though. weird first sentence. Holy Parenthesizes Batman! What the fuck was that first sentence about? Don't make my brain explode dude. Anyway, it's known that I dislike Brand New but aside from that, they are always a super boring live show. flying at tree level is awesome. id love to see them play songs 2 and 4 of the new album demos. the opening sentence to this shorted out my circuits. Flying at Tree Level? Wow. amazing set...i really wish i went to that Williamsburg show. that set looked even more amazing. Score is for using the word "Jawn" in your review. |
