I figured in the wake of Dave Karich, drummer and one of the founding members of Spring Heeled Jack USA, passing away, it would be a good time to review Spring Heeled Jack's best disc. Perhaps some would accuse me of being a sellout, as many of SHJ's fans prefer "Static World View" over this disc. I would argue that, as this disc has catchier tunes, better production, and just as much, if not more heart. People who liked this also liked:           Please login or register to post comments. God...I miss this band and their music (and of course, Dave RIP)! Luckily, we can experience the music of some of the members through Lost City Angels, Less Than Jake (and thats about it for now!) Without a doubt the most overlooked band of the mid 90s. Spring Heeled Jack have amazed me ever since I saw rthem play with Skavoovie and the Epitones on the Moon Stomp tour years ago. One of the most talented ska bands I've ever seen. this is one amazing cd, totally underappreciated, possibly one of the best 3rd wave cds out there This album is amazing top to bottom...great lyrics...great instrumentation...great vocals...The Tribute Show this December was the most memorable concert that I have ever attended. Spring Heeled Jack has been my favorite band since I first heard Static World View. It is just not the same to see the members in LTJ, RBF, the Bosstones, LCA...SHJ were too good not to get the respect they deserved. There is nothing better than listening to "Addicted" when you are feeling down...I reccomend downloading that song, you won't be dissapointed. First i gotta start by saying this is TRUELY a GREAT ALBUM, secondly i will try to answer a question posted... The cover that they recorded was "sexy and seventeen" which was originally by the stray cats. Its actually sung by pete (now known as JR in less than jake)... and a second song that was unreleased was called lonely, also you probably didn't know this but they also recorded an alternate version of jolene called "josie" which was recorded for the never been kissed soundtrack. those are the only one's i know of so far, i have a website going up called "Keep Ska Alive" it should be up soon, it will have a have a section devoted to SHJ with tab and mp3's and stuff... I agree, this is a great, record, but how does "Pop Song(Green)" tread on punk territory? It's a *POP* song, hence the title. It's pretty slow. It's a great song no doubt, but i think that it's misleading to say it's punk rock. Great ska-rock album. "Man of Tomorrow" is so rocking, and it once again proves that Coolie Ranx needs to be on EVERY 3rd wave ska band's CD... I have to disagree, I have both albums and I prefer this one. I was lucky enough to see Springheeled Jack 3 times in one year and each time it was amazing. They impressed me so much that when they came through on the Warped Tour a few years ago I bailed on the main stage to catch them on one of the smaller stages in the parking lot. I have a question though. Does anyone know if they ever recorded their last album, and if so, will it ever be released? I'm guessing it will never see the light of day (if it was even recorded) but I remember right before they broke up their website said they had put together some new material to shop around to labels. They also had a poll for what song fans wanted the band to cover on the new album. It all sounded very promising. Oh well, while it's sad they broke up (even sadder about the drummer RIP) I couldn't be happier with where a lot of the members have now ended up: Less Than Jake, Bosstones, Lost City Angels, Pilfers for awhile........krowdsurf i agree, Static World View, was better, but i never even bothered to get this CD after hearing the new tunes of this CD live. buy Static and play the hell out of it. |
