Oh, the RVA punk rock matinee. I love going to show and getting out early enough to still be able to go out and get piss drunk For those of you unfamiliar with Richmond’s punk scene, there is a sad irony. Richmond is the home of such well known bands as Avail, Strike Anywhere, Ann Beretta, Count Me Out, Sixer, River City High and so on. But there are hardly any clubs to see them in Richmond. Twisters has been gone for some time now, and I think I had just graduated from high school a few years back when the Flood Zone closed. So Alley Katz is it. Not a bad place though. Although you have to trek into the notorious Richmond “Bottom” to go, the place is pretty cool. Good pizza, $2 PBR and cheap shows. This one set me back $6. Giddy-up. I've actually heard Dan refer to himself as that before... quick note from the civilized (philadelphia) world dan yemin, despite what it says in the first kid dynamite record, does not go by dr. dan. too many people have been writing stuff that refers to him as such. do you think there is any possibility by dream will come true I'm sure I've met Dan somewhere before. The fan isn't really that big of a place and I think you said that you live behind Plan 9, right? Thats like 2 blocks from me. No, I don't know any punknews.org users either... but if you see me at a show you should say hi. There's a picture of me on the contact page of deepfrybonanza.com. I've lived here for about five years, but in two months I'm moving down to Chapel Hill to go to grad school at UNC. Chris and Dan: This was one of the best shows I've been to in ages... the atmosphere was just positively electric. Paint It Black were great... I was bummed that I couldn't get their EP too, and I agree with your comments about the hardcore bands. I too enjoy the $2 PBR, but I love straight edge hardcore and I don't love beating people up. I don't know any of the people below, but I'm guessing they've never been to Richmond. The hardcore boys have ruled the roost here for years, and they consistently make shows horrible for anyone but themselves. I know it's not like that everywhere, but that is certainly the case here. Anyway, I'm going to be putting a full-legnth show review up later in the week on Deepfrybonanza.com, so be sure and check that out if you're interested. Tim- Once upon a time sXe bands were ok. That was before they all became militantjockstrapassholes sporting onelifecrew and pro-life shirts. Okee? Your the asshole. Yeah clearly you can't not be edge and like a straight edge band right? You're a fucking idiot. |
