wow thats a great reveiw scott. this album is actually very good. rather then listning to scott, (who probably didnt even listen to the album). my teacher from school who listens to everything , including real punk, loves this album. so scott, go listen to some ramones cd over and over again and think about anarchy rather then wasting time writing reveiws for bands who are succesful Sweetness, this album is sweet! Tom's lyrics show clearly and the gutairs and bass go well together. Drums amazing. 'Cat Like Theif' cool name great lyrics. When I first bought this CD, it was in pretty heavy rotation in my CD player. Then I bought another CD a few weeks later, and started listening to that. I kept buying new CDs from various bands, and didn't break out the Box Car Racer CD for a long time until just recently (about a month ago, to be exact). I popped it into my CD player after reading this review, thinking, "It wasn't THAT fuckin' bad." I guess it was just a phase for me, because this CD made me feel like taking a nap. And they ripped off Alk3 pretty damn bad on "Cat Like Thief," which turned me off pretty quick after I listened to it for the first time in a couple years (when I first bought the CD, I had never really heard of Alkaline Trio, so I didn't know they were getting ripped off). Travis' drumming is the only good thing I remember about this CD, and the drumming alone is not worth the $14 I wasted on this shit-heap. BCR rips Clutch with their track "I Feel So" Anyone relase on the single "I Am" they stol the one guitar riff out of "Impetus" by Clutch. tab is for idiots. most likely the music you found is incorrect. Hey its me Whatsername182 and some people might no me from comments on the band Mest(good comments). Now let me say Blink 182 is my favorit band i have loved them from age4. Box Car Racer is awesome so I read a review that was talking about a different band and at the end it said i still hate box car racer. and I want to say to that person that you better keep your name Anonymous or you will get hurt. TOM I LOVE YOU AND THE SONG THERE IS. This is a great project band that tom and travis put togather. Obviously the review guy is has shit for brains because if he ever did play guitar he would have looked up the tabs for most of the songs and there are almost no songs in drop d you prob. just heard someone say that and wanted to put that on here cause your a dickhead that doesnt know shit about guitar or good bands so go eat out your mom. Furthermore, the new, self-titled Blink 182 album sounds almost the same as this, and Scott ate that up. I liked the new blink album decently enough, but I didn't think it was better than this. a lot of people will hate this band for what their image is, just because its related to Blink 182. I know my opinion won't be valid, cause I'm supporting the band here, but I really do like their sound. While the lyrics are lacking at points, the sound is very cool. In any case, I think this album is good, and I feel that I agree with Scott on a lot, showing how music reviews are kinda pointless. But i think this is good. it sounds like blink 182 but with a different name....and luckily it starts with the same letter so you dont have to move far in the music store....but it's pretty good for only $A10 ;) i enjoyed this cd and i think everyone should stop ragging on blink because they "sold out" they didn't sell out, they just got really popular, and you can't really blame them for that. who cares if its not totally punk, its not like the genre has anything to do with the quality of music. I am willing to bet that 90% of the people who actualy bought/listened to the whole album, and i mean actually gave it a chance, had something good to say when they posted on here, because it is a great record.... 90% of the negative comments on here are by people who probably hadn't even heard of box car racer, and just found out they were affiliated with blink...ie: your comments are unjustified based on the fact you never fucking listened to the record... boxcar racer sucks. I think Box Car Racer's cd is freaking awesome! It's deeper lyrics and cooler guitar playing makes them better then blink. But i still love blink. And to everyone that keeps saying that "there not punk" and all that other crap who really cares?! It's awesome music that i think doesn't need to be caterogized into every little detail, pop punk rock..blah blah blah. They just do there own thing and rock at it. So, to all the losers out there that have very thick skulls let me make it clearer for you NO ONE REALLY CARES WHAT YOU THINK!!! The following comment should read "This album kicked ass" or "This album was kick ass", This album was kicked ass. First of all, Box Car Racer was Tom and Travis's idea, it wasn't the idea of some MCA suit. They wanted to voice their more serious ideas - like stay together for the kids. Furthermore, I found very little similarties between the song "You've got so far to go" by alkaline trio and "cat like thief". The bass line might sound the same, but it's a fucking bass, how much different can you make it? that was the best review ever Box Car Racer my favorite band in the whole world, this cd is awesome..if you dont have it go get it! this is a more mature offering from tom and i like it. his voice sounds really good to me (not annoying) and his guitar playing sounds pretty good too. travis's drumming is awesome too. cat like thief is a rip off of alkaline trio though. "Hey ramones, the clash, sex pistols all on major labels..." Blink 182 was a decent pop punk band before Enema of the State. They were fast paced,funny and crude. This is not Blink. This is utter shit. Yes this is even worse then Blinks new albums. Man I am so fucking punk it's not funny, What do I listen to you ask? I listen to Blink 182, Boxcar Racer, Simple PLan, Mest, MxPx, Good Charlotte, and of course the band who started the punk lifestyle NEW FOUND GLORY! Grow up you fucking retards who actually think that Blink and Boxcar Racer takes talent to make theuir songs. They are a sad excuse for a band. Go cram your pre-pubescent nuts in your mouth and blast your stereo to Boxcar Racer. this cd is the one of the best! it's not blink-182 at all, just two of them and add a few more guitars and bass players and you got a more deeper and more real-life anthems. I listen to this cd all the time and it's awesome! to tom and travis: FUCKIN FUNNY AS HELL! you guys that dont like blink and boxcar cuz there on MtV need to sut the hl up becusae this is a decent cd and its a decent band, you guys think you r punk experts but i bet most of you odnt know the difference between emo and hardcore, let pepole likee what they want It's very evident that Box Car does not sound like Fugazi or Refused or any of the other mentioned bands. We all know that but Tom didn't say that. He said that it was influenced by these bands. There's a major difference. Just because you are influenced by a band doesn't mean your songs will sound like theirs. Lots of us have been influenced by Blink, mainly back in the Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch days, but that doesn't mean we're all going to write songs like these. They simply influenced us. And Yes he ripped off Alkaline but lots of "punk"(even though Box Car isn't) bands rip off other punk bands. Get used to it and deal with it. I agree with every single word written. Blahblahblah...all I see in the comments is bitching. Ha! That shit is funny. If either of you are Tom or Travis (which I doubt you are) then I have just have to say...great fuckin job, man! One of the first things that was written in the review was about this CD being more like Blink's "Adam's Song" and the other "deep" songs like that (which, by the way, are not "emo", as was written, but, whatever)... Those are the only Blink songs that I like, so I actually like this album, because I don't have to sit through crap like "All the Small Things". But, whatever, you guys have some lame comments. I like the cd,its blink meets a few different styles,keep an open mind- Since this is "PUNK"news.org and this band has members of Blink-182, obviously the reviewer is gonna trash it. I think you wrote this review with the intent to provide kids with something to bash, meanwhile trying to run a respectable punknews website.. which I admit, until this review was almost respectable with the exception of a few people that just said stupid things but now... you have made "punknews.org webmaster" a laughable title. in short, box car racer may be doing to hardcore what blink did to punk actually, i'm gonna give this a five. i give these guys credit for trying to improve on their sound. i'm not quite sure why they couldn't just do it in their first band (actually, yes i do, it's because they're afraid of losing their 90 million 12-year old fan base), but atleast they're attempting. so i went on over to amazon.com to see how much they were charging for this album, and i looked at the customer reviews. they're hilarious. one of the reviews says "get used to the guy with a funny voice" for cat like thief, referencing to Tim Armstrong for the slow witted. i think that says something about the audience of this album. "emo" is the most overused (now) mainstream buzzword i have ever heard. it is such a blanket statement that gives you no accurate description of what a band sounds like. christie front drive and the white octave sound just like each other don't they? they're both supposed to be in some emo genre aren't they? half of you are fucking morons. buy a vowel and a new adjective, vanna. props to the reviewer for picking up on that blatant alkaline trio rip off. And for the record, Tom is sexy as hell.. that 10 star rating was unintentional. this album is... bad. yeah, i'd say tim armstrong deserves "punk icon" status. after all he was in the legendary OpIvy and heads one of the most important punk bands of the 90's. people talk shit about rancid, but hey, they made it big without selling out. more power to em. yeah the album is SOOOO shit Hockey rules... I'd say Coffey goes to the Hall. He was a Wing and the Wings rule. Needless to say, I'm glad we booted his ass and got Brendan Shanahan instead -- Coffey dried up after leaving Detroit. I think he left enough of a legacy before leaving Detroit to warrant the induction. I think most of the Wings' current roster will make it in. Hockey is pretty punk rock, if you ask me. It's like a 60 minute mosh pit. Detroit will win the Cup this year. Box Car Racer is surprisingly good. Don't trash it. It's better than Blink, I think. OK Scott, This band is a blink side project but its NOT BLINK. you keep mentioning that they are some sort of rip off or soemthing of blink. They sound nothing like them except for adams song and stay together for the kids. No other blink song has the dark emosound of a lot of this stuff. Also, Elevators has Mark in it, yes, but it IS blink 182, HELL FUCKING NO. Elevators is a boring shit song that blink 182 wouldnt even bother shitting out. even though TOYPAJ was extremely dissapointing I was dissapointed in that song even more almost as much as I was with Cat Like Theif. Here's my two cents... 10 bucks says I've met Blink 182 before - I've known Mark since 1997 and we've kept in contact somewhat over the years [although not as much in the past few]. I've interviewed him before, I've met all the guys. I don't want their autographs. I like Blink 182 [for the millionth time]. To be honest, this album is not that bad, it's just the way it was presented completely turned me off. That statement Tom made about it sounding like Fugazi, Refused, etc. will continue to come back to haunt them. If this was the next Blink album, it would get a higher rating. Standing alone, it's mediocre. Why? Because side projects are SUPPOSED TO BE DIFFERENT. As for this cd, well, I think releasing it under a side project is lame when this easily could have been a blink 182 cd. I bet they were afraid to experiment with a 'more serious' (oh god, i can't even say it with a straight face, the lyrics are SO trite) sound that might alienate some fans of theirs. Either way, the trio rip off is huge lame and very evident. so yeah, boxcar racer no good.
