| The Hives / New Bomb Turks / Mooney Suzukilive in Chicago2002 live show Review by: GumbyMisfit See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on June 7th 2002
Summer is upon us my friends! It officially began on June 5th as the first truly rockin' concert of the season rolled into the windy city. The concert was not only the first of the season but it could be argued that this might be the best of the Summer bunch. The Hives, fresh off their new deal with Warner Brothers, came armed with enough music reps to fill the place themsleves for this sold out show(half of the balcony was roped off to accomodate people who probably only know one of two of their songs). Luckily, they decided to let some fans in as well. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
I read in a magazine that all the songs were written by one of the guitarists I've seen the Hives so many times I can't even remember here in Sweden. They've been around forever and it's great that the've finally gotten the recognition the deserve. So the answer to the litte stupid American cunt who heard the Hives were created by their manager is... NO! his ass will be thanking him in the morning because he didn't eat 2 taco bell meals (really unhealthy) and then he sweated a lot at the concert (really healthy), therefore allowing his ass to get smaller, therefore making his ass happy, and in turn, his ass will be thanking him. someone should ask the gumby misfit exactly why his ass will thank him in the morning as it wasn't clearly stated in his well-written review. Hello, i was in the front row of the concert... You'll remember me im the tall guy with the long side burns and long cock that the Turks guy had a crush on...haha I thought the show was awesome i got to enjoy it with some of my best friends and i was in the fron row to do things like sing, grab the singers and guitarist, and to be lurred up on stage unsuccesfully. i even got to tie the lead guitarist of the Hives shoe. all and all it was a great show one that really doesnt compare to many other i've ever seen. Every band was great, although i think above all THE MOONEY SUZUKI stole the show, I have there 2nd album Electric Sweat and have had it for a while thinking hey its coll, eh. but after seeing them live ive become obcessed they are amazing, they display a kind of energy they dont have on their records live that cannot be described. I appreciated the New Bomb Turks and loved being part of the show. It fucking kicked ass, any time a band can bring any members into the show like that they are doing something right. I cant wait to hear new things coming from them. And ofcourse the Hives, the headliner, they do not dissapoint, they had a great show keeping with their own mystique and punk attitude, not sell-outs (yet). And yes the front row of girls was quite ammusing i thought, they were tiny asian girls who somehow thought they could hold their own, only to find that people that drink at the metro aren't polite...and they love to be close to the bands they love. I was their all those of you whom have messeged here, i think were right behind me, so i ask how was the view from back there, i was front row... Also does anyone know where i could find photos of this show online that would be most excellant...i just want to thank all the bands for being soo cool and so personal and making a show a spectacle rather than piece of shit...tooo bad we couldnt have come up on stage...damn security! someone below brought up the hives being formed by a manager. i did some reading, and apparently that whole manager and songwriter thing could very well be a hoax, there is no invisible anomonous man, and it's them making fun of the whole boy band phenomenom. no one really knows though. i find it very hard to believe that a band (especially a punk band) would exist for a decade and never turn out their own song that's good enough to record. they also agreed at the start that they'd only put out 3 albums, because they don't think they could write more than three good albums. if they have someone writing all their songs for them, they wouldn't have to worry about that, now would they? i just find this whole mysterious Charlie-like person deal a little hard to swallow. uhhh, my dad was leaving his work at the paper one night and someone murdered him, still haven't found the fuckers. so that is why i wouldn't choose journalism. morbid huh? what happened with ur dad? sorry mr tool. i just like to argue. it sucks being a 15 year old girl who wants to rock out, and i know their were some teeny boppers, but c'mon no stereotypes... uhh yeah the unbuckling the belt, he was fucking asking for it trying to pull all those people up there... we just need more cock rock in this world... am i right people??? can i get a hell yeah??? suck my fat cock you piece of shit. Whoa hold on little fella!! So much anger in the young one. If you happen to read my review I said that the majority of the front row, not all of the front row. So I believe you when you say you were rocking out. Who am I to judge, for I am only a mere mortal that could only get up to the second row? I am kinda disturbed that you were trying to unbuckle the singer's pants (What's up wit dat???) Maybe you were in the mood for a little R. Kelley action (I know, I know, Innocent until proven guilty)?? The comments about the girls is a personal story that came from me. I was not tryinng to say that all of us were girls (last time I checked I was a boy). In fact, it was those girls that prevented me from moving up to your coveted position of front row Joe. They were in front of me and I did not want to be a goon and knock them out of the way because they were there first and I'm a gentleman. What is up with all the hate?? When you grow up hopefully you'll be able to better channel that negative energy. I repect your opinion and thought a rebuttal was in order. Just a misunderstanding (I hope there's no hard feelings). See you next time around...... In the FRONT ROW! this author is a fucking tool. yeah so i went to this exact same show. i came from missouri to see it with my friend and 19 year old brother. i indeed am a 15 year old, but i did dance to the new bomb turks and did not boo. i even tryed to unbuckle the singers pants for christ sake, but i was in the front row, and i don't think you have the fucking right to tell people that everyone were giddy underage girls with their parents. that is fucking ridiculous. and yeah i knew of the hives before mtv and all that shit, i saw them last year with international noise conspiracy. get a fucking clue that there is a revolution in the fact that girls and women who are actually more or just as fucking punk rock as you, no matter what your age is. represent that! I woulda went to this show if it didn't sell out. =P I like the Hives and all, but I just read that they were a manufactured band... They were put together by their manager, and don't even write their own songs. Uhhhh.... could someone please tell me I am wrong? ...And if they were put together, you'd think they'd be a little prettier. What's up with fat moustache guy? I remember when you could eat really good at Taco Bell for $2.00.....Fuck inflation. And R Kelly did do it, because I jacked off to the evidence. Thank you. (It shouldn't be a crime, but it is, and he broke it... He'll buy his way out) I would kill to see this show, preferably the person just below me. Does it matter "fagggggggggg"? Turks are from Columbus not Cleveland FAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGG And O.J. didn't do it, right? Yeah, you can download the video off of Kazaa ... not that I did that or anything ... why don't ya cry about it a little more no im just sick of ppl always thinking a person is guilty when they haven't been convicted of anything. very impressive... whish i could have been there haha, ya the R. Kelly joke was great. And isnt there videos proving his guilt? Anyway who are you his lawyer? Or maybe just share his lifestyle and you're defending it, I dunno. hives suck and r kelly hasn't been convicted of anything yet so shut the fuck up. P.S. Thanks for giving props to the New Bomb Turks, they're the shit and paved the way for the current influx of bands of this genre :) If you can get tix for the NYC show on the 12th DO IT! There's a great band called Division of Laura Lee opening up that day. They're from Sweden too and may not make it back for a while and they kick ass, you won't regret it.... that review was great just for the r. kelly crack. i have access to tickets if i want them, the thing is i have something the next day, so i'm not sure i want to go. "(Also might want to keep the kids away from R. Kelly too)." Um, callinglondon, is your head in the gutter? The Hives shows in NYC have been sold out for at least a month. Good luck getting tickets! Damn. I was about to go to the Minnesota show, but I had school. :( I saw the Mooney Suzuki earlier though. Their S/T EP I think is better. nice review. the hives are coming to NY on the 12th. i want very much to go see them, and i'd say there's a much greater chance of that happening now. anyone know who'll be playing with them in NY? |
