Weezer on hiatus, prepare live DVD

Weezer has announced that 2006 heralds a new live DVD from the band as well as a temporary hiatus. In 2005, the band released Make Believe which spawned a number of popular singles. The first, "Beverly Hills" dominated digital charts.

In February, the band will go on a temporary hiatus when frontman Rivers Cuomo returns to Harvard to wrap up his English degree. In the meantime, Geffen will release an as-yet-untitled live DVD sometime this year. The contents were recorded during the band's recent visit to Japan and will also include behind-the-scenes footage.

According to one source however, the hiatus is definitely not the permanent one some people suggested, with new material already written during the band's tours and a regrouping after Cuomo's graduation seemingly likely.
