Against Me! to play benefit show for FWF

Against Me! will be playing a benefit show for The Florida Wildlife Federation. The group is currently engaged in a lawsuit with Centrex Homes over the destruction of sensitive wetland habitat in Marineland.

Other bands playing the show include Environmental Youth Crunch, the Tubers and Civilization.

Against Me! signed to Sire late last year, and released Searching for a Former Clarity earlier in 2005.

ummm, yes and no. it's definitley not indicative of the EP, but the new one has it's poppy moments like that. then there's oher songs, 'Chicken' for example that are just striaght up fast EpiFat sounding greatness. good harmonies throughout too, might appeal to your inner NUFAN fan.

Caring about the environment? Playing benefit shows to support things other than their bank accounts? I thought these guys sold out. You can't even do that right, christ. Really, that's cool. I'm sure some douche rocket will say it is just to salavage their cred, but glad to see these dudes are still using their soapbox for good. Unfortunately, I doubt a benefit fo Florida wetlands will be around VA.

Axl Rose for me, is like Apathy and Exhaustion. Half of the songs on the record are fucking amazzzingg (and probably are the best songs by the band) but when you get into how cohesive (got I hate using buzz words like that to describe albums) Clarity and Eternal are as actual records it makes it hard to choose a clear cut favorite. Just like when I compare A&E and Greatest Story. For me, I don't know if they'll ever be able to write songs like Pints of Guiness or We Laugh at Danger ever again, but I have no doubt in my mind that their next record may very well be their most realized work yet. They are one of the best definitions and examples of an evolving band I have ever seen, probably why they get all the Clash comparisons.

they're still a decent band. just because they signed to a major, some sour motherfuckers will always bandie about the "they're only selling the image of revolution now," but really when you think about it, when have they not? ever since they've been releasing their music for consumption and profit, they're been "selling" their "image of revolution".....and by mainstream standards, Against Me are one of the best bands out there right now. whether they're on Sire records or they're handing out self-pressed 7 in.'s out of their van on a street corner. i for one am glad for the exposure that they're going to get, and hopefully the record exec bigwigs can look past the "mediocre" numbers they might put up (several hundred thousand copies of an album sold is still a drop in the bucket by mainstream industry standards) and tether their faith on AM!'s artistic fucking merits. It is my theory that AM! will be dropped after two records. They have enough of an installed fan base to sell enough records to break even, but I don't think there's any way they will be able to have that commercial sound that'll make their shit go platinum. Thus the labels won't be able to make enough money off of them, and they'll probably be given the option to leave. PAYCE.

It took them about 3 when I ordered it from Philly (across the country from San Fran), so don't be surprised if it takes another week or two. And they just say they'll chose whatever label they feel will fit them best. Most of the DVD is them getting the majors to buy them dinner and drinks.

I don't know specifics, but I think you need to sell a lot more records on a major to make a profit. You just have a giant corporate force behind you that has the ability to push you into the mainstream and sell more records. I could be totally wrong, but I think that's how it is. Lots of indie bands are indie just because it makes more sense for them financially.

Okay. I've got $12.56 on an iTunes gift certificate that's burning a hole in my pocket. I like to buy physical albums, so I'm looking for records that may be harder to find in a store (I don't like mail order. If I can't hunt it down, I'd rather buy it on iTunes. I know, I'm weird.). Anyway, my tastes are Lawrence Arms (and the Falcon), Jawbreaker, Bad Religion, Ghoti Hook, Farside, Alkaline Trio, Less Than Jake, Replacements, Dillinger Four, Face To Face, Millencolin, etc.... Haven't heard Annalise. I listened to a bit of Enemy You. I'm still not sure. It does sound almost exactly like ATG era Bad Religion, but I have yet to get tired of the old Bad Religion CDs, so I'm not sure if it'd be worth it.

I've just started listening to Fifth Hour Hero, they're on No Idea. I think they'd fit in with what you like. It's enjoyable melodic punk, nothing earth shattering, but I like them for some reason. They have a female singer, which I typically don't care for at all. But her voice is enjoyable. They have a guy singer too, but she seems to sing the most.

well, the benefits of signing to a major are more radio play, more promotion, more venues open up to you on tour, basically the marketing/PR machine gets rolling for your band and the the record company really greases a lot of palms and provides a lot of opportunities to get your band heard. HOWEVER....you get paid absolute shit though because most of the money from album sales goes straight back to the record company, which sucks. plus, if you don't make back all the money the record company spent on promoting your band, you're fucked. it's really a double edged sword. but it was their decision.
