The Blood Brothers set to record on April 23rd

The Blood Brothers have announced plans to record their upcoming full length with production set to begin on April 23rd. The album will follow their 2004 V2 full length, Crimes. Since the release of that album, besides extensive touring, members of the band also collaborated to release Chandeliers in the Savannah under the name Neon Blonde, and also Head Wound City as Head Wound City.

According to the band, they will be recording in "a secluded cave in the outskirts of Seattle" and have enlisted Guy Picciotto, co-vocalist of legendary Washington D.C. band Fugazi, and producer of recent albums from The Gossip and Blonde Redhead.

Sharing the production duties with Guy will be John Goodmanson, a veteran producer responsible for records from a diverse range of acts from Death Cab for Cutie to Sleater-Kinney. Goodmanson also co-produced Crimes along with the band themselves.

Yeah. It was on my top 5 overall last year, really, it's that good. Thanks for mentioning it. According to justin they've recorded a full length that they're going to release and tour with around april 07. I'm stoked.

I have to go with simpsons because it's just so lovable, and even though it turned to shit by season 7-8.... It's still really funny if you ignore the plot. There's some absolutley lovely homer stuff, and i'm a sucker for his predictable stupidness. My favorite homer move is when he says something, then repeat it in an angry tone while shaking his fist.

Simpsons. When Family Guy was in its first incantation it was better, because Simpsons was in a slump. Since then, Simpsons regained teh funny and FG has been a mess since it came back on TV.

i didn't think so. i can't even put my finger on what's missing lately, it's just like something got lost along the way, maybe the timing, maybe it's just played, i have no idea. all i know is that Homer has become brain dead and the stories and guest characters have just gotten way over the top.

Naw, I just caught an episode this sunday. It was awful. The jokes were rehashed shit from season 7. It felt like two old plots pieced together to make a new episode. But yeah, I have noticed Family guy has gone downhill lately. It's a lot less funny scenerios and a lot more "Like that time" flashbacks. They need to find a way to tie in jokes otherwise it seems to random and cut and paste. -Dante

i find the only good thing about Family Guy lately is the commentary on celebrities, i.e. Sarah Jessica Parker looking like a foot. there's been a few good episodes in the last year, just nothing spectacular. also, i have a very random question for you. Fresno State is in Cali, and the fact that it's Fresno State means it's a state school, right? so why isn't it UC Fresno? like everything that's a state school in NY is a SUNY, except Binghamton, which still has some stupid SUNY designation somewhere. anyway, what gives?

The UC system (University of California) is a slightly more distinguished state school. other than that I don't know what makes it special. They're larger universities that sometimes offer different colleges for different majors all under one university system (ex: there are several colleges under UC San Diego). UC's are also harder to get into than state schools and require SAT II Test scores. I also believe you can get a doctorate from a UC and not a state school. UC's: San Diego, Riverside, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbra, Berkley, Los Angeles, irvine And San Francisco. I think that's it...maybe two more. But there are tons of state schools: San Jose, Hayward, San Francisco, Fresno, Chico, Sanoma, San Diego, Bakersfield, Fullerton, LA. Pretty much any bigger city has em. -Dante

ahhh, ok. i just realized it's kind of the same here. Cornell for instance is a SUNY (i'm pretty sure) but isn't called it cause it's one of the higher ones. just like Binghamton, Albany, Geneseo and Buffalo. but there's also about a dozen places like SUNY Plattsburgh, SUNY Potsdam, StonyBrook, etc. and all NY state community colleges are SUNYs. i feel so enlightened now. or something.

give credit where credit is due. the simpsons was revolutionary in its own right. now as far as which is better, its tricky. the first couple of seasons of the simpson were like an animated sitcom, when matt groening still wrote them, he tried to keep them realistic. then it started to become self-aware, so to speak, and got, well, silly. there were several episodes that were almost on par with south park in way of social commentary, but then there were episodes that were more like family guy in its absurdist manner. so basically, when it comes down to it, the simpsons is a more versitale show, and has gone through more stages. however, if you put the best nonsense episodes up against the best of family guy, i'd say family guy, just for the "laugh-per-minute" ratio. also, if you put the best commentary episodes up against south park, same thing. all in a

Can I Say. I didn't really dig Wig Out At Denko's. The vocalist on that album really bothers me. And though I liked Minority Of One (the only other Dag Nasty album I own), it sounds more like Bad Religion than Dag Nasty.

As tired and cliched as it may be, the new stuff (read: Four on the Floor and Minority) does really pale in comparison to the earlier albums. Four on the Floor sounds like half-assed Down By Law, and Minority of one does indeed sounds like Bad Religion

Or you just have taste. I kinda liked them on first listen. Then, when I realized they took the Mars Volta approach to lyricism, I quit caring. Also, I tend to get lost in the middle. They'd be good if every song was as short as Guitarmy.

Dude, there was one song past the four minute mark on Crimes. Sure. they're not as tight and concise as Paint it Black but there's a thousand other bands in the genre you could say 'noodle around' more.

oh definitley. i'm not here to say these guys are 'gay' or fucking suck or anything, i just don't like them. i've found songs don't need to be extra long for me to find them boring or accuse them of noodling around. and i completly agree that there are many worse noodling bands, but they're all bad too. at least these guys have some talent, just not my style at all. if could gimme a faster song to check out maybe i could get into it.

I would recommend "Fucking's Greatest Hits", "USA Nails" or "Ambulance vs. Ambulance" maybe "Celia and the Silhouette saloon". All of these songs are from Burn, Piano Island, Burn. Crimes is ok, "Trash Flavored Trash" is a pretty good song off of that album.

Yeah, but they all go on too long. ANd this is coming from someone who hates that Paint It Black and Kid Dynamite's songs are so short. BEcause those two bands' songs are needlessly short, and this band's songs are needlessly long. Their songs need to be shorts bursts of energy, not the length of pop songs.

That comparison is so far off base you're a few miles from the stadium. The Blood Brothers formed 4 years before Volta did.

I didn't mean they imitated Mars Volta (who I know are not as old as The Blood Brothers. I heard This Adultery Is Ripe in my roommate's car stereo well before The first Mars Volta CD came out.). I just referenced Mars Volta because they're in the same ballpark, lyrically. I could have said "Overly verbose, unneccessarily abstract, void of any distinguishable meaning while maintaining enough interpretable lines so that art school students with dictionaries in hand can say 'No, it's really deep'" school of lyricism, but I thought by simply referencing one of their contemporaries who do a similar thing, it'd sound less mean, wouldn't be as incendiary and would be more succinct (unlike this post).

Eh, maybe I'm wrong. "Stupid" still works as a descriptor. It's just a different world to me. There will always be people who like that stuff, and I'm fine with that. I just hate the idea that some people expect you to like it if you're "smart". I like my lyrics slightly more expository.

My brother (who is a bigger Blood Brothers fan than I am, and I love them) saw them in Seattle a few weeks ago and actually walked out because they were so bad. Not the show or their performance, but the NEW MUSIC was so bad.

I used to like the Blood Brothers a lot. They got kind of old. I love Guy. I worship Fugazi. So I busted out some Burn Piano Island, Burn. Just as I felt last time, Guitarmy fucking rips, USA Nails is nuts and Fucking's Greatest Hits is also rawdizzle. Everything else just like... uggghhh drags. I dunno. I think these guys have a gift with those fuckin' screams of theirs, maybe Guy will do something amazin' with them.

This will be one of the most anticipated, best releases this year. I'm so sick of people dissing The Blood Brothers after proclaiming how fantastic they were when Burn, Piano Island, Burn came out. Grow up. The new material will probably be quite a bit more abstract, closer to the art-punk of Liars than their more hardcore-influenced material. I'm excited to see where these guys can take their post-modern lyrics and how they'll be expanding their vocal techniques. Not to mention: more synth.
