Jason Shevchuk, current frontman of Fat Wreck Chords' None More Black and formerly of Jade Tree's Kid Dynamite now has a solo project called OnGuard.
While there's no word whether more members will be added, Shevchuk is apparently operating the "rock / folk rock" act on his lonesome according to the project's MySpace page, where three songs are currently streaming: "Benders [alt. version]," "Little Prisons," and "Of Course It's Cash...". None More Black released their sophomore full-length, This Is Satire, earlier this year, and also played their record label's CMJ showcase on Wednesday. They currently have no scheduled shows forthcoming. News (158 comments)

Could anybody rip these songs for me? Shevchuk is one of my favorite singers, and I'd love to have these.

I love this guy. I only listened to "Of Course It's Cash" so far, but that was great.

I'll be sad if this means the end of NMB, but Jason was the heart of that band and wherever he's writing music, magic will be happening.
Someone (November 5, 2006)
wow i refreshed the onguard myspace page and it litterally jumped 100 plays on each count haha
Someone (November 5, 2006)
why is it that any time someone makes a solo project it's automatically classified as folk?
Someone (November 5, 2006)
If the dude sending out the Bound songs doesn't mind, I'd like them as well!

Weird, considering I just got home from a show featuring the debut of Nathan (BSF) doing solo shit, Rob Huddleston, Chuck Ragan and Tim Barry. 2+ Replies

Someone (November 5, 2006)
but against me hasn't done this yet, are you sure you want to do this without them doing it first??????????????????????
ianXisXpositive (November 5, 2006)
Yah, NMB have apparently called it a day.
Frankff (November 5, 2006)
These sound really good.
Damo (November 5, 2006)
so ya do know that NMB are splitting but aren't allowed to say (promises from the fest etc), hence the sly "They currently have no scheduled shows forthcoming"
Someone (November 5, 2006)
I just dont get the appeal of his voice. I didn't like it in Kid Dynamite or NMB and just listened to this and couldnt get into it, even tho the music's cool.
klonny (November 5, 2006)
Sounds like a punk trying to play acoustic country.
Someone (November 5, 2006)
why don't they just get rob, tim, chuck, nathan, and jason to form some punk-country super group. maybe if they're lucky they can get tom gabel or brendan kelly in on it. or if they're really lucky, matt skiba. 1+ Reply

I'm getting pretty sick of all these punk/post-punk singers forming acoustic side-projects. Although these guys are great at performing punk rock tunes, their acoustic songs are usually overly simple and boring, and simply don't compare to mellow indie acts like Owen and Okkervil River. Tim Barry's solo stuff in particular disappoints me; it seems so half-assed. 7+ Replies

Why are bands breaking up and not announcing it on their own websites? The Suicde Machines site, as well as their myspace has yet to announce the demise of the band, which has prompted many "when are you coming back to________? comments. I'm sure the NMB thing will go the same way. 2+ Replies

bound was awesome. you needed to live in jersey to appreciate it i guess . . .

I love Jasons voice and all but it is a little harsh for this mellow music.

None More Black was so fun to watch. Oh well, I'll raise a drink in their honor tonight.
ABedForLiars (November 5, 2006)
I love None More Black, so OnGuard is probably going to be great. I added them on MySpace before I even knew they were a band. I just added them because the link was under Jason's name. Silly me.
sutpen (November 5, 2006)
does someone have a copy of these they can send me or post somewhere (like oink)? Damn, they were so good, I'm upset he took them down. AIM screename: aempathetic 2+ Replies
