Jason Shevchuk (None More Black, Kid Dynamite) forms OnGuard

Jason Shevchuk, current frontman of Fat Wreck Chords' None More Black and formerly of Jade Tree's Kid Dynamite now has a solo project called OnGuard.

While there's no word whether more members will be added, Shevchuk is apparently operating the "rock / folk rock" act on his lonesome according to the project's MySpace page, where three songs are currently streaming: "Benders [alt. version]," "Little Prisons," and "Of Course It's Cash...".

None More Black released their sophomore full-length, This Is Satire, earlier this year, and also played their record label's CMJ showcase on Wednesday. They currently have no scheduled shows forthcoming.

Highly unlikely. This is a solo sideproject. My guess is that NMB needs a little break, but Jason wants to take the time to continue making music of his own.

Weird, considering I just got home from a show featuring the debut of Nathan (BSF) doing solo shit, Rob Huddleston, Chuck Ragan and Tim Barry.

I'll say this, every Chuck song sounds like a lost HWM track, he gets sooooooo into it. I don'tknow what song it was, but at one point he says "this goes out to my brothers in the Draft" and played this faster, agressive song that would have fit perfectly on Caution.

Jason left Kid Dynamite because he was tired of touring. He was hurting his voice. NMB was made as more of just an outlet for his songwriting than a big touring band. Besides, he considers himself a filmmaker now.

I think the people of Iraq should be the ones to carry out the sentence. I could see objecting to it for human rights reasons, but Iraqis aren't going to be scrambling to safe his life, either. As far as what he has done that Bush hasn't. As much as I HATE George W. Bush, you have to look at the fact that you just posted that, and you're still alive, Fat Mike is still living, etc. Bush is a horrible prsident, but he doesn't gas his own people! One could argue this citing the numerous people put to death in Texas under his jurisdiction, but it's not exactly the same, most of those people committed violent crimes! I am 100% opposed to the death penalty, but Hussein was not a good man.

I'm getting pretty sick of all these punk/post-punk singers forming acoustic side-projects. Although these guys are great at performing punk rock tunes, their acoustic songs are usually overly simple and boring, and simply don't compare to mellow indie acts like Owen and Okkervil River. Tim Barry's solo stuff in particular disappoints me; it seems so half-assed.

The exceptions, I guess, are Ian MacKaye and Devon formerly of Osker, who are really tearing it up with the Evens and Fingers Cut Megamachine.

I could care less about the variety of instruments he uses. His arrangements are sloppy and amateurish, while the lyrics are lame (which is odd, considering Avail usually have pretty stellar lyrics). The song I downloaded was "Avoiding Catatonic Surrender." I also streamed bits of a few more at Barry's MySpace page.

I'll stick to bands like Owen and Iron & Wine when I want to hear folky stuff. You might denounce it as "trendy indie garbage," but it's a whole lot more well executed.

Why are bands breaking up and not announcing it on their own websites? The Suicde Machines site, as well as their myspace has yet to announce the demise of the band, which has prompted many "when are you coming back to________? comments. I'm sure the NMB thing will go the same way.

I love None More Black, so OnGuard is probably going to be great. I added them on MySpace before I even knew they were a band. I just added them because the link was under Jason's name. Silly me.
