Loved Ones recruit Explosion members for headlining tour

With the recent departure of bassist Michael "Spider" Cotterman just before their first headlining tour, The Loved Ones have recruited friends Chris Gonzales and Dave Walsh from The Explosion for bass and guitar respectively.

The tour, which kicks off this week, includes Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer. The band released their debut full length, Keep Your Heart last year. You can enter for a chance to see the tour in Cleveland or Virginia Beach, and receive a copy of the album, along with some other cool stuff, by checking out our Punknews Free Shows and Schwag contest.

Not necessary, per se. I think they're awesome to watch live, but a second guitarist would go a long ways to fleshing out their sound to the point of sheer awesomeness.

Yeah, I've seen the 2 guitar version twice now and the sound is really filled out. I think it might actually be what the band was missing.

Agree 100%. I'd say especially because when I saw them with four members, the second guitarist also added some backing vocals, which really helped since Dave uses a lot of overlapping vocals on the ep and album.

I've only seen them as a four piece and they were pretty good not the best but they had lot of energy and talked with the crowd, so it was solid and two guitars do sound much better.

Anyone hear the new Shins album? Its good, but it sounds as if they are trying way too hard. Like they felt they had to have a different sound for their third album, but only produced listenable pretension. They should have just continued to play nice indie pop.

I'm just saying its good, not exceptionally great like their first two. Their lyrics are worse this time around. The whole "sprites stand up for their rights" bit is quite possible the most annoying piece of music I've heard in a long, long time.

That's ridicuous. Spider is hardly ex-KD anyway, as he barely toured with them, and only recorded on Shorter Faster Louder, when the band already knew they were breaking up.

There's nothing wrong with the bass parts in Loved Ones, they fit the music, but they aren't what make the band stand out. If you stop listening to them becuse of that reason, well...that's retarded.

Well said, again. There's no single thing that really makes the band stand out - none of the members is exceptionally talented and the song-writing is hardly ground-breaking. But they're solid all around, very good live, and write some pretty good, catchy songs.
