Guitar Hero 3 to feature Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, Muse

The makers of the smash hit video game Guitar Hero have announced some of the music which will be playable in the upcoming third revision of the franchise. Leading the way will be tracks by Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, Muse, Rolling Stones, Kiss, Living Colour and more.

Due out in the fall, the sequel will include Gibson-designed wireless guitars. Previous games earned kudos from a number of famous fans including My Chemical Romance and the Donnas.

I finally saw this on Human Giant and I have to say it looks really cool.
But it looks like it's one of those games that would totally suck unless you spent months and months getting good at it.
But the concept is sweet.

Nah, you can pick it up pretty quickly, especially if you already play guitar. It's not like playing real guitar, but you'll avoid lots of pitfalls that beginners make like only using downstrokes and spending half the time looking at the frets.

I've nearly beaten guitar hero 2 on expert and I've put maybe... 40-50 hours of gameplay time into it... But most people who play aren't out to beat the game on the hardest difficulty and there is a pretty steady learning curve as well like any other video game... I haven't seen one person not like the game once they figured it out

The way I look at it, is if you can't play the guitar, you shouldn't be playing Guitar Hero. If you're going to invest all the time and money into learning how to push some buttons on a guitar-shaped piece of plastic, you might as well put that money into buying a cheap guitar and some chord books.

And playing a real guitar isn't? I guess technically it's not a "game" per se, but it's still fun and a lot more satisfying than having a high score. Especially when Guitar Hero goes out of style, and all you're left with is an amazing ability to move the fingers on your left hand.

Yeah but I think the appeal of guitar hero is the fact that pressing buttons is a lot easier than learning how to play guitar. People are just lazy. I have so many friends who own guitars (some really nice ones too), but don't know how to play because they never take the time to sit down and learn/practice.

They couldn't use a better Weezer song than "My Name Is Jonas"? Decent song, but who wants to "rock out" to that song on Guitar Hero? I would have picked either "Tired Of Sex" or "Dope Nose"....even "Buddy Holly" would be more fun to play on that game....oh well.

In high school I jammed with friends who were Weezer obsessive. The only song I could really get into was Jonas. But Tired of Sex was a great excuse to use an annoying fuzz pedal with my bass.

They're really not a band I would expect for Guitar Hero but the same goes with Foo Fighters and Danzig, and those turned out relatively well.

Yeah, they are still selling more PS2 SYSTEMS than PS3s. Not just games, but the hardware itself. I think in April they moved 50,000 or so PS3, and over 100,000 PS2.

the song: american werewolf in calgary by the browns (which was also on tony hawk's underground) is also confirmed to be on the next guitar hero game. there are several "lesser known" bands that have been confirmed, the publishing company has only released the "big name" bands so far...ala kiss, etc. cool cool.

Cherub Rock is going to be the single greatest thing that happened to guitar hero! And really, they could have chosen a better D song... I guess there weren't too many options, though, that would've kept the game below an "M" rating.

can you imagine if they had a metalcore or however you want to call it version, with bands like Fall of Troy, Shai Hulud, Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, etc on it? Of course it would be ridiculously complicated and more than likely not worth even attempting, but IT would be pretty cool....

Remember the RIAA and the whole musician loyalties thing? Yeah, that's one of the biggest reason why you wont see some of those bands (like Zep, from what I've heard they hate licensing their music).

I don't know about you guys but I'm looking forward to Rock Band. While I don't picture myself doing anything other than just playing the guitar still, I expect it to have a much better variety of songs due to MTV buying out Harmonix (the company that made Guitar Hero 1 and 2). Last time I checked MTV has the rights to just about every mainstream (rock) song any one person could think of.

A Wilhelm Scream would be perfect for this game, but still they insist on putting a healthy amount of shit on their track lists. And I think one Heart song was enough for this series.

Instead of making new games with multiple genres, they should focus on making expansion packs. I would buy every sequel to Punk Guitar Hero and Ska Guitar Hero, and maybe a Metal Guitar Hero or 2.
