Not willing to be left behind, Warner has signed a deal with music community Imeem.com. The companies announced the move Thursday and said WMG had also dismissed its copyright infringement claims against Imeem. WMG filed a lawsuit against Imeem in U.S. District Court, Central District of California, in May. It claimed Imeem attracted about 16 million users, at least in part by allowing them to share copyrighted music.
The companies said their agreement results in a free, ad-supported online access to all the music and video content from the major label. WMG is expected to get a portion of Imeem's advertising revenue in return. Imeem users can create and share playlists, video channels, photo slideshows, and blogs. The partnership with WMG will allow users to connect with artists and other online fans. Warner Music Group (18 comments)

hopefully the record industries are getting a "if we can't beat them we might as well join them" attitude.

Right now, I know that some bands, Yellowcard included, are using services that allow you to download material right to your computer from Myspace, no other program is needed. I'm not sure if there is copyright protected things on it, I seriously doubt that Yellowcard would allow themelves to get caught up in a selling songs that you can't copy to one computer or other or only play on an Ipod (I've heard stories that other bands have it this way). Once again, Yellowcard blazes a trail and nobody even notices. If a tree falls in the forest and only a rabbit hears it, doesn't it still fall? If Yellowcard fights for the little bands and everyone is too worried about Against Me!, doesn't that count for something? 3+ Replies
