Haha, I was a projectionist at a theatre for a few years, and I fucking HATED working on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Of course, you had douchebags coming up and asking "I can't believe they make you work today", and I eventually said to someone "well, if people like you would not fucking come here, we wouldn't have to work today".... I got written up.

My family usually parties till about 3am Friday, but I'm ducking out at 3pm to head over to Metro... show starts at 6, I believe their site said.

And my girlfriend's family is just annoying (more-so on holidays, for some reason), so I'll just skip her house altogether this year.

It would rock if they recorded this show for a DVD. It could be like Alkaline Trio's Halloween at the Metro DVD but on Thanksgiving at the Metro

I had never heard any WIFS stuff until about four minutes ago, but it sounds like the part of the AM! fan base interested in the old, sing-along stuff will be into. If not, they might want to try opening for the Squirrel Nut Zippers or something.

no it's cause the majority of the people who read (or post) enjoy most of those bands (and about all enjoy Against Me) so you make it a point to post about how much you hate them in every thread

i've never really seen you say you dislike anything else.

Sage is pretty mediocre other than Personal Journals, which is probably one of the best albums of that genre. none of his other stuff has been too great though.

When I saw them 2 months ago they played (along with most of New Wave) Reinventing Axl Rose, Tonight We're Gonna GIve it 35%, Impact, Baby I'm an Anarchist, and What We Worked For.

I think they should get the entire audience to come on the stage and perform the set. I mean, they just wanna get lost in the music, right? Think about it, AM! could be playing 4 or 5 sets around the country each night. Just set up the instruments and let the kids sort it out.

I saw the tour in Toledo, and kids don't just get onstage, they try to hug/collar the band members mid-song, grab the mic, etc -- it's rude to the performer to disrupt their set like that, and it's rude to the whole audience who is there to see the band perform, not some crowd member act like a jackass.

The crowd has always added to the against me! shows. If you go into a show thinking everyone who jumps on stage is a jackass and wants to fuck you or your shit up there is something wrong. It is not rude to jump on stage. I think it is rude to sit in the back and never give any energy back.

There's a middle ground between jumping onstage and detracting from the performance, and sitting in the back by the bar. I was in the thick of the crowd the whole time singing along, but when some idiot got up there and tried to yank the mic away from Tom mid-song, then chased him around the stage a little, it was ridiculous. People should have fun at shows but not at the expense of the performance suffering.

Yeah, their stage manager - the guy they have the drinking game about in We're Never Going Home - is pretty intense. When I saw AM last, some kid in the front reached on stage and swiped a guitar pick he had just stuck to a mic stand. The stage manager guy turned around and looked like he wanted to beat the kid to a bloody pulp.

Damn. I guess I walked out too soon. I should have stayed a few minutes longer to see that altercation go down.

I saw them about a week ago in Poughkeepsie and Tom did the exact opposite... he ripped the security guard a new one for trying to get a kid off stage. The band either stopped the song or it was the end of it, the song was Those Anarcho Punks Are Mysterious..., and he just ripped into the security guard.

One of the nice things about living in the middle of nowhere (Iowa) is that up-and-coming bands like AM still play in tiny little venues. They played in a 275 capacity club when they were here last month.

Yeah, this is true, in NYC if World/Inferno was headlining I'm sure they'd sell this fucking place out.

You can guarantee most of the W/IFS kids will go for them, leave after they play, and boo/shit talk/yell at the other bands at how much they suck.

I disagree to an extent, I think every artist you mentioned has an album that's better than a Sage Francis album, early Ice Cube, Illamatic, and Midnight Marauders are all better than Sage's albums, but the latter material from All of those artists all sounds too mainstream to me (with the exception of Talib Kweli's "Liberation" and Immortal Technique) I don't think any of those artisits are superior to sage these days. But I'll take Public Enemy or Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy over any other hip-hop at all times.

and Ice Cube's latest effort was his strongest since Death Certificate, in my opinion

you'd be surprised how good they still are. SFAFC stuff generally wasn't too good live, but New Wave stuff is pretty damn good live.
