Epitaph and Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz has put together a list of his top albums of the year. Among the list are recent albums from LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, Weakerthans, Gallows, Timbaland, Fall Out Boy, The Klllers, Hard-Fi and Battles. For Gallows, Brett praises the record calling it the best punk rock album since Refused's classic The Shape of Punk to Come.

those aren't bad in the grand scheme of things, sure there were better records this year but Battles and the Weakerthans are pretty great.

oh brett gurewitz. what are we going to do with you? elitist punk kids everywhere are so conflicted.
ConsolationPrizefighter (December 14, 2007)
Was it just me or was that Gallows track in the background sounding a lot like Drive Like Jehu?

did we ever find out if that was really brett whipping out his junk on that web cam that was on the net last year, i think?

The headline should read "Brett Gurewitz names his top ten albums of 2007 (as announced by Eugene Levy)" Seriously, shit is uncanny.

I will probably be heckled for this, but what does everybody have against The Gallows. Yeah they aren't ground breaking but they aren't bad. Their new cd is at least a 7 and isn't anywhere nearly as bad as I am Ghost, Parkway Drive, and all the other crap on Epitaph (excluding Bouncing Souls and Bad Religion).

10. RBF - Monkeys For Nothin' And The Chimps For Free
Euphrates (December 14, 2007)
I don't care who you are, what label you own/run, what band your in, who your boyfriend/girlfriend is.....you cannot compare The Shape of Punk to Come with anything.......ever. That record is still ahead of its time. I am one of the biggest Bad Religion fans out there but come on Brett....Story Of The Year?.......Seriously?..........COME ON!
eroqTN (December 14, 2007)
Not sure about alot of that............for me it was Strung Out's Blackhawks over LA or AWS Career Suicide.

AnarchyPants (December 14, 2007)
Hey Brett, maybe you could have left off the bands that are on your own label!
okmike (December 14, 2007)
5 - 10 years ago Brett's top 10 would've actually meant something to me. Nowdays.....not so much. Epitaph is dead. Thanks for the memories.
Schmurda (December 14, 2007)
Watching this makes me uncomfortable. You can see in his face that he knows what shit this is.
jumptheshark (December 14, 2007)

I guess I never put together who that song was about ha. I must say, though, that Snot has always been enjoyable for me.

my headline submission was ACTUALLY "further proof that brett gurewitz is completely fucking retarded" or something like that.
Marizo (December 15, 2007)
10. Battles - Mirrored
Rastid (December 15, 2007)
I'm not sure there were enough good albums this year to make a top 10. So many disappointments.... Last year was like a million times better.
TREOS (December 15, 2007)
the best album of the year is "ride-your-bike-to"-able???
schrutebucks (December 15, 2007)
10. Ted Leo & The Pharmacists- Living With The Living
chrisafi (December 15, 2007)
Deep down, I have a hopeful wish Brett does this just so he can pop round the internet and see how many 'punk-scene' kids he can piss off. And then laugh at you for being lame.
sceneholocaust (December 17, 2007)
5. Machine Head - The Blackening
thebigtakeover (December 29, 2007)
I can't believe how many lists are omitting bedouin soundclash's new album. It's so well done. I found it to be the most accessible reggae albums to come along in a while. |
