i went to school in boulder. denver is 25 minutes away and gets a ton of shows. i've heard that the fox and boulder theater aren't getting anything anymore, and that tulagis closed down. if i were you i'd join up with club 156 and start bringing bands in. assuming you go to CU. if not. who knows.

i don't go to cu. and yeah, tulagi's is several years in the ground.

the fox and the boulder theater pretty much just get hip hop, reggae, and jam bands.

club 156 is pretty much run by students, so spotty at best. i almost saw atom and his package with the arrivals there 3 or 4 years ago, but they cancelled the show, atom never showed, and me and the arrivals were the only people to show up. i ended up hanging out with them instead. good time, but i still would like to have seen atom again. damn students.

denver is only 25 minutes away, and they do get a ton of shows. they just don't get many shows i wanna go see.

grumble grumble.

i saw rise against at tulagis in their first denver/boulder area show. i also saw the deviates there year's ago. i got arrested right outside of the venue for passing out in a puddle of my own puke.

but yeah, soda jerk tends to book mall punk stuff and the ogden and the bluebird are really big. i used to work at larimer lounge, which gets a lot of cool shows if you're willing to see bands you don't know well.

i've been to the larimer numerous times. good space.

and i know there's cool shows in denver, but i don't drive, so it's either take the bus, or ride my bike, which makes it a looong night, riding home in the dark after a show. crazy mile high drunk drivers....

That was a good show except for that terrible fucking jam band that opened.

they just played a bunch of east coast dates.

I honestly can't remember the last time there was a show worth going to within driving distance of Ithaca that I wasn't personally responsible for booking.

that is absolutely true.

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure they pull at least 800 or so out of already existing fans.

they played Terminal 5 here in new york, which is pretty big. bigger than where alkaline trio played the same night. that being said, thursday co-headlined so they probably brought a big crew of kids out as well.

Orlando was 2,000+

you're staying in brihghton beach? goddamn. brighton beach is pretty far from absolutely everything, except its right next to coney island, which is one of the coolest parts about new york.

the black lips are playing a free show at mccaren pool on august 3rd. which is in brooklyn, but kind of a trek from brighton beach. its a pretty rad venue, an old abanonded public pool that was turned into a venue.

again, just check pollstar or brooklynvegan the week you're here, and if you're trying to get to a venue, use hopstop.com its like mapquest but for the subway system.

just a warning. brighton beach to yankee stadium could take you 2+ hours on the subway.
