Media: The Jealous Sound: "Got Friends"

Los Angeles, CA's The Jealous Sound have posted the title track off of their upcoming full length, Got Friends. The band has cleverly claimed that a group of terrorists named Gel Is Sound have taken the song hostage and posted it on their virb page.

No word on what label the album will come out on, but in 2005 the band signed to The Militia Group and haven't released any new material since then. Regardless, the song can be found here.

I forgot how much I liked the self titled Face to Face album.

On another note, can someone recommend some of the more obvious hard(er)core leaning bands that should be checked out? Someone once said hardcore is what punks listen to when they grow up, and I think I get that now. It was fun but I don't want to be screamed at/preached to as much these days. Like, I dunnno exactly what category I'm looking for specifically. I just figured out Jawbreaker is great, checked out Gunmoll after that, pretty good...I know everyone says HWM but I can't get my arms around them yet for some reason. I dunno. Catchy without being poppy, more heavy than fast, that kind of thing? I'm trying to use allmusic and itunes to find stuff but I'm sure I'll miss some great gems. Eh?

I'm kinda confused. You say to recommend some hardcore groups but the bands you mention: Jawbreaker, Gunmoll, HWM definitely aren't hardcore. Great groups though! Checkout the Lawrence Arms if you haven't already.

yeah no I know. I guess I was trying to say I didn't know how to describe what I'm looking for hehe. Yeah I figured I should try some Lawrence Arms, heard a few songs, I dunno. and I love Slapstick but Brendan Kelly is a little more intense than I'm usually in the mood for. I tried The Falcon, I mean I can kindof get in to it. I want vocals and lyrics that don't sound like they're trying so hard to convince you of something, if that makes any sense? Something more just laid out, you gotta go to it kind of thing, blah I don't know. I appreciate the suggestion though. Keep em coming.

maybe I'll have to give HWM a more thorough listen. I think I just downloaded like the 8 most popular songs on itunes back when. Maybe it needs to be given a more substantive listen, cause damn people rave about 'em. Also, controversies aside, are any of the post Axl Rose, Against Me! albums worth checking out? I had become something of an internet recluse around that time and I cut myself off cold turkey, and so didn't really discover any new music til I stumbled on Gaslight earlier this year, ha. Any other highlights from the last 6 years I might be missing out on?

Against Me! Eternal Cowboy is pretty good. I didn't like anything after that.

Have you heard the Lawrence Arms songs the Chris sings? Songs like Chapter 13, 100 Resolutions, Right As Rain, Turnstyles, Nebraska, Fireflies, The Revisionist, and Lose Your Illusion are awesome, and are worth trying out even if you aren't too into the Brenden songs. Chris also has an acoustic album out under the name "Sundowner" that is pretty rad.

I have a few suggestions for you.

Obviously, the Lawrence Arms. They are the best band ever.

I would recommend; Avail, Dillinger Four, Witches With Dicks, Sleeper Horse, Smoke Or Fire, and A Death In the Family. (most or all of these you can check out on myspace to hear what they sound like)

And A Wilhelm Scream. The are definitely super fast but they are gritty too. If you like fast, gritty songs with 3 part harmonies you might want to check them out.

Don't forget about The Replacements.

P.S. Don't quit on Hot Water Music. When I hear them ten years ago I thought it was just a bunch of hollering. The more you listen to them the more you hear the melody. Now they are one of my favorite bands.

p.s.s. The self titled face to face cd is a great record.

awesome, thanks. Yeah I'm down with Dillinger Four. And I bought an Avail album like 6 years ago but I don't think I've listened to it in 5 1/2, maybe I'll bust that out again. I'll sheck out this other stuff too.

And I like Alkaline Trio, but they're a little too cloying for this tangent I've found myself on lately. Goddammit is the one I can't really get in to even though I know it is supposed to be a classic. What's a good Fugazi album? My friend had 13 Songs back in the day and I dug that, that sound is I think sorta what I'm looking for.

"13 Songs" is s good place to start for Fugazi.

Also try Sparta - "Wiretap Scars" if you haven't already. And Small Brown Bike - "Dead Reckoning" is great record. These are more fugazi - ish mid-tempo post hardcore records.

Other ones I just thought of are Polar Bear Club and the Hot Snakes.

Hot Water Music is the greatest punk/indie/post hardcore whatever band of all time, being both floridian and a long time fan (12 years and counting!)I'm pretty sure I'm right; when you said "hardcore is what punks listen to when they grow up" I think you meant post-hardcore, as much as I hate labeling music, this label seems to work check out these bands;

as friends rust
Salem(gotta jock my brother's band)
Texas is the reason
old further seems forever
Fugazi -red medicine (this album is great!)
Rival Schools
I could go on and on, but I'm at work, so I gotta go, go on myspace and check out the "Post" page, it's a page representing a book to come out about emo and post-hardcore from 1995-2000, check it out!

p.s. the truth is that most puk music in the last 6-7 years ha ssucke danyway, not to be a jaded old fart.

I got my first Hot Water Music album, No Division, yesterday. At first I was kind meh on it, so I decided to listen again, to see what the Orgers are on about.

I've been listening to it (and now the other albums I've acquired) exclusively since yesterday. Fuck.

Good band, good song. I found myself singing along with the chorus by the end of the first listen. That's the mark of a good pop song.
