Last February we reported on a live performance from legendary San Fran punk group Flipper, to be held at Amoeba Records in the band's hometown. The famous record shop has graciously posted high-quality footage from the show online.

As a pioneering group in the west coast punk scene of the early 1980's, Flipper has been cited as a major influence by bands like NOFX and Nirvana.

Isn't some vital member of this band dead? Anyway, Flipper is the shit. Someone needs to reissue "Generic Album" and "Sex Bomb Baby" so I can have legit copies.
Best song of theirs is clearly "Earthworm."

How do people feel about Swans? I think they're very Flipper-ish, but a little more prescient of bands like Big Black,etc. Hell yes drone-y, doom-y, punk-y, noise-y rock.

Tucson AZ is fucking crazy. I'm sitting next to a pool eating my delicious mexican food.

Said mexican food cost me 3.45 for a massive plate of food.

A lady that looked like the landlady from Kingpin sold me a 32oz of Miller High Life. By 'sold' I mean she was behind the counter yelling across the store talking me into it. I hope she has stock, she was crazy proud of it.

saw these guys last year at the screening party for American Hardcore. Stood next to Steve Buschemi who knew every word, behind Darryl from Bad Brains and about four people over from Moby who actually played a few songs with them.

Flipper, as always these days, succeed on every level. Multiple people who were around to see Flipper "back in the day" have told me that the band is better live now thanks to Bruce's intense performance, Steve's enthusiastic attitude and those tortured riffs flying from Falconi. Apparently the new record has been done for a while now, but they are having label troubles. There is no justice in the music world.

oh yeah....and Bruce is one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet. Every time I see them play he has no problem hanging out before or after the shows to chat......a real genuine dude.

Great footage! I'm bummed I missed this show- Flipper's been one of my favorite bands forever.

Will Shatter, who co-wrote/sung many of their classic songs, died of a heroin OD in 1987. John, who played with them for a few years during their 1990s re-emergence, also died of an OD.

Flipper pulled some lame shit with Subterranean- who'd released & kept in print "Generic" & "Gone Fishin'", as well as the "Sex Bomb Baby" singles comp & the Flipper 2xLP live record. There was no contract since, uh, there hadn't needed to be one (see also Butthole Surfers & Touch&Go). They took the masters & the rights from Steve & gave them to Def American who reissued at least "Generic." Not sure if they ever reissued "Gone Fishin'."

I believe that major label involvement is why those records are out of print. Hopefully the band can get them out again, but any label who reissues them should insist on a detailed contract for the sake of both the band & the label.
