Propagandhi completes new album, prepares to tour

Winnipeg's Propagandhi have announced through their website that they have completed the recording of their new album, which will follow 2005's Potemkin City Limits. The band says,

For the first time in the last 10 years we have completed a record on schedule!! It is a killer record!! Everything went really well. We're really excited for everyone to hear it. We will begin touring all over the place in February 2009!! Prepare yourself!!

As previously reported, the band plans to release the record through Fat Wreck Chords.

I don't really like any of Propagandhi's previous albums, save for a couple songs here and there, but I get the feeling I will enjoy this somewhat... I don't know why.

fact is, most of us are doing some really shitty things to the planet, animals, etc. i doubt you'd disagree with that.

those lyrics and liner notes were written when they were younger and fairly new vegans. i tend to think they do the whole political punk/hardcore thing with a lot more grace, tact, and humor than most other "political" bands do.

They do. I'm probably just being grumpy. Ironically enough, whenever political bands start getting really really vocal about stuff, all I can think of is that phenomenal old Dead Kennedys song, "Where Do Ya Draw the Line?" Sums up a lot of my feelings.

i'm glad you mentioned that DK song. good stuff.

i'm not sure how familiar you are with propagandhi, but their lyrics have really progressed beyond the real in-your-face stuff (though i still love it) to more mature, well-written prose (iteration, for example). one of their earliest songs was called 'firestorm, my ass' in response to the earth crisis vegan/straight edge song saying "is this kristallnacht or what the fuck is your plan?"

Potemkin City Limits was my least favorite Propagandhi album by far, and I have a feeling this is going to be more of the same. That's not a bad thing necessarily, PCL was still a great record, just not on par with the songwriting of their first three.

The only Propagandhi songs I really like were on Potemkin. Aside from samson's, of course, which are more like Weakerthans songs to me anyway.

Yeah, I definitely understand why people like it so much, they're tight as fuck and the songs are energetic...but there's just not as many stand outs, no back to the motor leagues or less talk more rocks...regardless, im excited about the new record

it's definitely not as accessible to a first time propagandhi listener..."back to the motor league" is what got me into them actually, but now i appreciate the depth of PCL and find songs like BTTML kind of predictable, even though i really like it still.

Really? PCL was my first Prop album. My buddy did the whole Garden State "you gotta hear this song it'll change your life" thing. I should have ended the friendship when he referenced that movie, but it got me into Propagandhi, so I forgave him.

It's funny, it wasn't until I finally saw Propagandhi live that I ended up enjoying PCL as an entire album. I guess it took hearing a bunch of those songs live for me to finally warm up to it.

Less Talk, More Rock will always be their best album, there's no way around that. I actually like Today's Empires Tomorrows Ashes the least out of all their full length albums.

TETA is my favorite by far. The first two are good but lack the power of TETA and PCL has great songwriting but lacks the great production of TETA. I can't wait to hear the new record. Is it true they have added a 2nd guitar player?

I like everything the guy did, except Bound and the last NMB album. LaGrecia was kind of so-so, but they had potential. I don't like the guy because of how he sandbagged Virgil and then didn't even offer a fucking apology. It was a dick move of the highest caliber, and therefore he can go fuck himself.

A couple years ago during the touring for Potemkin (i assume) they played a really small bar,about a 8 minute walk from where i lived, and i was offered free tickets to go.

I of course declined them, and spent the night watching old episodes of King of the Hill and doing laundry. A much better use of my time.
