Musink tour with Social Distortion, Motorhead cancelled

The recently announced Musink Tattoo & Music Festival has been cancelled. The bill was supposed to feature Social Distortion and Motörhead and hit 25 dates from January to March 2009. SD had this to say:

Due to complications within the MUSINK touring company and outside of Social Distortion's control the MUSINK tour featuring Social D has been shelved by tour organizers.

Earlier this year, Ness noted that the band will return to the studio next year to rework their still-untitled new album. This will be their first studio album since 2004's Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll.

Favorite Social D album? Most of my life I thought "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell," but recently I've realized "White Light" is probably the album I've listened to most in my life. I just found it on vinyl too.

One day I walked into Best Buy and purchased Social Distortion's S/T and They Might Be Giant's "Flood." My life was changed forever.

"Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell" is the one I've listened to the most and is probably my favorite. But "White Light" is an amazing album. I'm torn between the two. S/T and Mommy's Little Monsters behind that and finally the last one.

"Somewhere" has more of my favorite songs from them.

I've pondered this question for probably the last 15 years of my life and can never come up with an answer...

But I think White Light and Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell are at the top. Self-titled very very close behind.

That order could change within hours though. It always does.

That's a tough call.
"Somewhere" is an incredibly tight album, Mike and Dennis just clicked on that beautifull ballance of punk/blues/rock roots.
'White light' was when they began to show their teeth again (w/ Don't drag me down).
'Prison Bound' has a sound that is simply dumbfounding; when you hear a kid, that just crawled out of rehab, belting out emotonal lyrics that are channeled through a talented display of passionate blues/country guitar styles.

Every time (and it is often) that I put in "Mommy's Little Monster", I find myself saying, "Jesus Christ, this was 1982."

The best is a tough call. But we have been lucky to have had that band survive past 1985, and since, put out the albums that they have.
As long as Mike's fingers dance the fretts of that 1962 custom goldtop, there stands a chance that another SD album could complicate the "best album" paradox.

Shit.. that probably read like more of an opinion collumn, than a post.

SD haters- We're waiting.

hahaha Seriously dude, I couldn't have said that better myself. Social Distortion is not only one of the most important bands in history but they a major reason why I am who I am today. Thanks to my dad, I've listened to them since I was about 5 years old (I'm 21 now)... before I even knew what Punk Rock was. They've been with me for almost my entire life and I can't even explain what they've done for me, musically and personally.

We ARE lucky to have a band like that. A band that has seen SO MANY misfortunes and road blocks throughout the 30 years they've existed. Most bands wouldn't have made it through the first of those road block, but they have without making a single album that doesn't complicate the "best album" discussion.

As you said, as long as Mike can play the Blues and write those words and melodies that continue to floor us, then they will continue be one of the most important current bands in Punk Rock.

Thanks dude.
It's nice to see that the roots of punk are still cherished.
I'm pushin' 28, myself and Social D (as well as Mike's solo work) has always been a reasuring musical beacon for my abscure multipassion of punk/blues/(old)country/&rock. They have somehow always kept an anchor on the roots music (blues/folk/country/rock), that has inspired the 2nd generaton of punk (and many of the alt-country bands that were former punks). (Bad Religion has done so, lyricaly; you can play any BR song w/ an acoustic on the G, C, D, or A chords).
I have witnesed few bands that have displayed true passion on stage. I have seen tears in the eyes of Mike Ness, Greg Graffin, and Rise Against (about 4 yrs back) as they have preformed.
I can only hope that others will follow.
(To dismiss accusations of being hypocritical, I write & play regularly; but still trying to get to that stage worthy point).

I'll bet Social D got to the edge of California and stopped suddenly like Moonlight Graham at the edge of the baseball field in Field of Dreams. Now we just need to convince them that they won't turn into old doctors if they step to the other side.

One of my most important, all-time favorite bands though.

Great tune! It's called "White Zombie" and should be on the opening of their new record. A great was to open a Social Distortion show!
