United Nations (Glassjaw, Thursday) vs United Nations (France, China, Belgium), rematch

Legal troubles are again plaguing United Nations, the group that features Geoff Rickley (Thursday), Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw), Chree from The Number Twelve Looks Like You, and Kiss it Goodbye's Eric Cooper.

After the group lost their Facebook page, it seems that MySpace has now deleted their page as well. Though details are sparse, the band has promised more information coming soon on their homepage.

The group released their self-titled album this year through Eyeball Records.

It doesn't surprise me. They hijacked a name and were called on it. Pick another name or do something stupid like '(we are) United Nations'.

I mean, but is the UN really threatened by this? It's not like anyone is going to go to either of the band's pages and be confused and try to get in touch with Kofi Annan. I guess I just don't understand what vested interest they have in it.

I know what you are saying, BUT it is theirs to decide whether or not they want to cause a shit-storm. It would be like a band calling themselves The Justice League of America. DC Comics would tell them to stop.

I have no problem with it, I'm just saying that you can't be surprised when it comes up to bite you.

Remember Jugghead's revenge. I think they might have snuck through until some idiot printed a band t-shirt with archie's Jughead on it.

I always thought it was funny when the world wildlife fund sued world wrestling federation for using the same acronym. Which is totally ridiculous in my book. It's not like they used the same initials to confuse people to their complete unrelated product.

I think they should go with 'Untied Nations' ala the old Far Side Comic "dyslexics of the world untie!"

Vinyl Collective and Rev HQ are about the best.

There's no reason to think they would. It's two totally different things. Did the bands Boston, America or Kansas run into problems? No. You can have the same name something else does, as long as they're not in the same realm. For instance, you could have a band called Huffy, but you couldn't start a bike company with that name.

Does the UN actually have a copyright on the name "United Nations"? I mean I guess they have to otherwise they don't really have a case. Other than the fact that they're the UN and who the fuck is gonna go to court with them

if the presidents of the united states of america can get away with that name, i don't see why united nations have any problems....the presidents were/are alot better than this stuff though...
