Media: Brian Fallon: "The Blues Mary", "Italian Lightning"

The Gaslight Anthem's Brian Fallon posted some sample solo tracks towards the end of 2008. "The Blues Mary" and "Italian Lightning" are available at his MySpace page. The lyrics of the latter and its source of inspiration can be found in his blog.

Fallon previously posted the track "Backstreets" and some solo dates. He has since posted a few new solo dates for the new year.

I was at a party last night, and all of the sudden I felt this gigantic fart coming on. So I waited a couple minutes until it got closer to release at full power. So I blasted it off thinking I was going to rumble the entire house, but I did not hear a sound. All I felt was a huge wet splash straight into my pants. So I was like "OH FUCK!" and I ran into the bathroom and found a load of shartness in my pants. So I had to scoop it out with a spoon into the toilet, and I cleaned it out as best as I could, and I put my pants back on but I found there was a significant brown stain on the back of my pants. So I had to sneak out of the party 'secret asian man' style so no one could see the back of my pants.

i am posting in a Fleshlight Bantha-related article.

The '59 Sound is catchy, i'll give it that. but i just can't get into it as much as the majority of 'orgers have. the first....6 songs are gold, but it just seems to lag a little in the second half. maybe if it was an EP with Great Ex, 59 Sound, High Lonesome, Film Noir, Here's Looking At You, and Miles Davis, and you know....if Dawson developed a little more personality in his voice, it'd be one of the year's best for me.

the one thing i can be happy about though, this dude released an album's worth of songs i can sing in my own range.

I started reading Ultimate Spider-Man today, and holy shit is it addictive. I made it through 60-some issues in pretty much one sitting. I didn't think anything could have gotten me to put down Matt Taibbi's The Great Derangement, but goddamn.

Also, "The Blues, Mary" is fucking amazing.

i've been reading Astonishing X-Men on and off lately and despite the cheesy, cutesie "wink at you" joss whedon dialog, it's not terrible. yet.

i don't read many superhero comics anymore, aside from Batman stuff. i'm waiting for Batman RIP to drop in February.

Matt Taibbi is great man. I loved all the parts about the 9/11 truthers. Another good political writer is Thomas Frank. He's not as funny or cynical as Taibbi, but he does constantly mention punk rock in his books.

ive heard a lot of comments about brian's gravelly voice, and how it sounds like he smokes a pack a day, but I dont really hear it in Italian Lightning, a bit in the Blues Mary though. Either way, I think he sounds great

I'm confused with what "The Blues, Mary..." (not the song, the collection) is actually going to be. Is it just going to be what he calls the collection of demo's that he posts on his myspace? Or is he planning on using that as the title of an actual official solo album?

Popularity aside, 300 was a pretty faithful adaptation, and i have nothing but the highest expectations for Watchmen. At the very least, the visuals are gong to be stunning.

Agreed on all points. I'm no Pats fan by a long shot, but for a team to lose it's star player (quarterback, no less) and play like they did, yet miss the playoffs is a damn shame.

The 8-8 and 9-7 teams were division champs because their divisions suck. The 11-5 and 12-4 teams were wild cards because their divisions were very good. Maybe it doesn't seem completely fair, but Im guessing Indianapolis will kill anyway.
