According to a report from Wired, controversial music industry group, the RIAA, is apparently undergoing serious layoffs, with some describing it as a "bloodbath."
The layoffs are due to both the recession and the abandonment of mass lawsuits against consumers. Some sources suggest the remaining employees may merge with the group's European counterpart. Games and Technology (138 comments)

Yes, because I am sure some of those office workers or staff, that had nothing to do with the lawsuits, deserve to be laid off. 2+ Replies

no matter what anyone may think about downloading music - there's no denying that album sales have plummeted across to the board to ridiculously low levels; not surprised that they're hurting 5+ Replies

while i disagree with some of their tactics, i still think its sad that people are losing their jobs right now in any industry. 2+ Replies

This is a useless corporation, anyway. As far as bad karma goes, all that suing of 12 year old girls and dead people...well, there you go. 2+ Replies

I'm not an RIAA apologist, as I'm not even sure what they DO, ya know? But I don't fault them for trying to find ways to compensate artists in a time when they are getting ripped off. Yes, their methodology was flawed (suing grannys and shit), but the spirit of their actions was virtuous It would be like if one day you heard that the police department was shut down. Your initial reaction might be, "Sweet, I can drive as fast as I want now!" Then someone comes and robs your house, and society generally unravels. Not so fun anymore. Unfortunately the above analogy doesn't really apply to the RIAA because they were terrible at enforcing anything, couldn't push through a viable solution (such as a tax to ISPs), and were ineffectual lobbyists. But that doesn't change the fact that stealing music, movies, and other forms of art isn't wrong. < show rest of comment 4+ Replies

So, I just found out that one of the bars in my town is run by a racist that plays Skrewdriver. I was skeptical about the source at first, but had it confirmed vehemently by two other un-related people. 3+ Replies

So what I took away from this article is that the RIAA has only been kept afloat by their idiotic mass lawsuits. So if they had of succeeded and people stopped stealing music, then the RIAA goes down the drain. 1+ Reply
