Media: Isis: "20 Minutes / 40 Years"

Isis have posted a new song from their forthcoming album. The record is titled Wavering Radiant and is due out May 5, 2009. It follows 2006's In the Absence of Truth.

The band will announce a six week US tour next week; the tour is set to kick off May 14 in San Diego.

i mean, the guys in isis are pretty fucking good at their instruments yeah, but it's hardly virtuoso stuff. and their songwriting is amazing.

That's just my general take on any band on this label and Suicide Squeeze.

I'd say most of the bands on both labels aren't known for their "tech" abilities. The songwriting isn't really standard type stuff, but the people that listen to this kind of stuff are listening mostly for the oddly structured songs and the, pardon the term, epic nature of them, and not virtuoso playing.

yeah, a lot of it is about atmosphere and the build-up of intensity. took me ages to get into post-rock/post-metal, but there were little bits that kept me coming back each time, until i really began to enjoy most of it that i heard.

that said, i can definitely see why a lot of people wouldn't like it.

I'm with you 100 percent. It's not something I can or want to listen to all the time, but some days, I'll just listen to hours of it. It's great for working, too.

It's definitely not for everyone, absolutely. But to say the people who are into it, are into it because of "shredding" vs songwriting, are pretty far off.

Ehm, ipecac bands aren't really shredding type of bands, they're definently more about extremely dynamic songwriting and not being confirmed to any set of rules.

Now, I definently don't like every band on this label but it still rings true for every band -- it's all about the song.
