For sure man, I had to come in every night from playing with my friends to say the fucking rosary. Shit like that every day, and this lasted a long, long time. When I finally broke out of Catholic school and stopped going to my family's weekly Catholic group gatherings, and ended up at a public high school, I was so incredibly unprepared for the outside world... I became depressed, and completely fucked up the next decade of my life.

The alternative is to wake up when you're 53, when you actually are getting too old, and realise that you missed your chance. But I know that if you're reading this, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. The trick now is for you to follow through. That's the tough part, believe me, I know, but the alternative is worse.

I went to Catholic schools all my life, went to Church occasionally, went through Confirmation and all of it. I wasn't sheltered, sure I wasn't given XXX gangbang videos at 10, but I wasn't overly protected or not allowed to make friends out of the "Catholic family group" (I don't even know what that is.) I mean its hard to keep your kids to not hang out with other kids when they join little league or the boy scouts or whatever else kids do. I never felt out of place or weird when hanging with friends from public schools or who were of different religions.

Moderate liberal Catholics were who I was raised around and what my Chuch is like. I am sorry to hear your childhood sucked so much, but I just want to point out that at least not all who were raised Catholic were raised under such odd circumstances.

But now I see and talk to religious people, and I feel sorry for their future kids, just in case its possible for shit like that to happen to them.
