I've never been able to get into them. I think the fact that they had a dude introduce them as " the best band in experimental sneaker-core" and their singer flailing around like a douche on stage had a lot to do with it. I know people fiend them, but they were seriously one of the worst bands I've ever seen live.

Glassjaws lyrics are so unbelieveably crude against women to the point of self parody. That's why I don't like them.

I only enjoy Sparta's 1st album, and I think Glassjaw is great. Not sure why so many people them except for the fact that they don't hammer away on boring chords along a mid-tempo straight beat while some drunk fucker with a beard struggles to sing along with em.

Glassjaw is fucking awful. I hate his voice.

It was all going fairly well until you walked out of Glassjaw after 1 song, then it all fell apart...

well now that we have the final ruling on taste I guess the book's closed.

Jim basically plays butt-rock now. The first Sparta album had some of the creativity and passion that ATDI had, but it still didn't compare. I'm not sure how you can justify them "sucking ass" when their creativity and musicianship was far and away from basically every band before and after them. They never sounded like another band and no one else has ever sounded like them.

read the "Freezes Over" trade by Brian Azzarello. its probably one of the better ones and the most accessible (really light on the magic shit). so, if you can find it in the library or something, id definitely give it a shot.

agreed, it's my favorite too. i've got all 35(i think, including specials) of the trades and i've read up through brian azzarello's run twice. haven't made it all the way through the mike carey, denise mina, andy diggle stuff yet, but i was able to download and read all of paul jenkins uncollected run, which was pretty rad, even though nobody seemed to like it when it came out.

I don't like ska-PUNK because of Operation Ivy. That band is so important to me that I am almost insulted by the generic trumpet riffs of some bands and over production of others. Operation Ivy was honest and not formulaic; they were raw, innovative, and powerful.

Costello produced the first Specials album and have you listened to "Watching the Detectives"? He doesn't play ska music, no. But he's dabbled in the ska/reggae sound.

Also, Op. Ivy was the first of it's kind. No other band had that sound until they came around. Then the Bosstones hit the scene.

I play all sorts of music. I've been playing guitar for a long time and I also know how to play the keyboards, harmonica, accordion, and saxophone. But I hope my band goes for a combination of sound with Hot Water Music, Rehasher, D4, Avail, Polar Bear Club, Bouncing Souls and Kid Dynamite (too name some). I think it'd be cool to do a band kinda like Drag the River someday, but that's for when I'm older.
