The songs recorded for Eros are very special to us as they are the latest with Chi (and we certainly hope not the last); they have history and significant meaning to us. However, as we neared completion on Eros, we realized that this record doesn't best encompass and represent who we are currently as people and as musicians. And although those songs will see the light of day at some point, we collectively made the decision that we needed to take a new approach, and with Chi's condition heavy on our minds while doing so. We needed to return to the studio to do what we felt was right artistically. You can read the full statement here, and read about Chi Cheng's condition here.

Sacramento, CA's Deftones have decided to scrap their new album. Titled Eros, the album was a group of songs that featured currently hospitalized bass player Chi Cheng who was in a severe car accident. Says the band:

Bedouin Soundclash in dc last night, so good, however they need to bring Pat back on drums, the new guy not even close to the same caliber of drummer. Other than that, my girl and I actually had a chance to talk to Jay before the show and take some pics, really nice guy and very appreciative of us and all Soundclash fans-oldpunker-

So maybe I'm wrong here, but according to that site, they've raised over $50,000 dollars for this guy's medical bills. That's cool and all, but it doesn't say anything about the other guys in the band actually donating anything. I know there isn't a benefits package with being a musician, but I'd be willing to bet the Deftones have enough money that between the healthy members they could have chipped in the same amount. 1+ Reply

Good band....never listened to them too much, but what I did hear was great.

Did they just kick Chi out of the band right after he got into a "severe" car accident...and then toss all the songs they wrote together in storage for a B-side CD? Damn that's rough | Features
