Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem recently visited The Sun to record a cover of the Leonard Cohen classic, "Hallelujah." Brian's performance appears also influenced by the late Jeff Buckley's celebrated recording of the song.

Such a cliche' song, sure, but this is hands down one of my favorite melodies of all time. "Oliver's Army" is a close second. 2+ Replies

more people should cover Handel's "Hallalujah" chorus. It would be way more interesting

im usually dissapointed by both gaslight live and covers of this song (being a huge leonard cohen fan), so this seemed doomed from the outset, but this is great. it's not an easy song to get right, but he did.

Should also add Leonard Cohen's version waaaaaaaaay better than Jeff Buckley's cover. Buckley's got so over used it's pretty boring. And on that note, his dad Tim Buckley was waaaaaaay better as well. Jeff always seemed to be some what of a rip off. I defy you not to find a more haunting and sad song like "Once I Was" by Tim Buckley. 4+ Replies

Bands I'm disappointed in myself for having missed the boat on for so long but immeasurably happy I gave a chance today: Grabass Charlestons, Ann Beretta, Ringers, Young Livers, North Lincoln. Sometimes last.fm recommendations don't suck. 1+ Reply

this is a fun song to sing drunk with lots of people around a hotel piano.

I wish Jeff Buckley had jumped in a river before he recorded any music. 2+ Replies

wow. wow, this was terrible. i know brian was trying to do that whole "put a new spin on it by singing the harmony part, etc" thing, but damn. i couldn't even make it through to the chorus.

the sex scene in 'Watchmen' with this song is either the greatest scene in the history of cinema, or the worst... i haven't made up my mind yet. 1+ Reply

I couldn't finish it. I like Gaslight Anthem a lot but... And Jeff Buckley over-sang.

Leonard Cohen is hard to cover considering he always did it the best. Sundowner has come closest though.
