What's so wrong about it? It's pretty straight forward, not too many 'electronic' elements...it's pretty much a pop record.

It's really really boring. It's just them trying to act like the Cure. It's lost all the intensity the band had for the longest time. Yawn. Snore. I'm in need for a nap and it's only 11 A.M.

i would rather hear nothing but AFI covering the Cure than EVER hear another fucking TI, Lil Wayne, Fall Out Boy, Black Eye Peas...or 98% of anything else on the airwaves, any day of the week.

for what this album is, which is a pop album aimed at a mass audience, i really feel its more than just an average album. its a really, really good album. so what if its got those undertones, i can guarantee you that they can pull it off live, and itll be phenomenal.

I suggest checking it out with an open mind. Each song gets better than the one before it. It's a lot of fun, and I know that's not a word usually associated with AFI, but...still.

I'm listening to the stream now and being totally honest, I don't hate it. If I bought it it'd be filed away and forgotten after a day or two so I'm not going to buy it, but it's definitely a step up from decemberunderground. Granted I'm listening while working so it's not a real intent listening session but still, anything better than hate should be seen as a victory for them.

you might be right, im working on homework in the learning center at my school, and im not 100% listening to it. maybe i should check it out in a less distracted environment.

either way, im listening to american steel now, and im happy to be alive.

I wouldn't go so far as to say, "fucking sweet", but it definitely tops Decemberunderground and gives hope to the direction this band is going in.

i liked decemberunderground, but it took me years and years of listening to it before i actually got into it.

ive liked pretty much album this band has ever put out, though. and the instant connection with this album, coupled with the fact that it isnt at all what i assumed it was going to be make it "fucking sweet" to me.

I don't have nearly as much hatred towards Decemberunderground as I did when it first came out. There are a few decent tracks, (particularly the B-sides). As bad as it sounds, I think that album was the height of their little experimentation into strange new places, and that image really turned me off of them.

I don't think this is going to win back any fans that were lost after their Nitro years, but I am thoroughly impressed with it and I'm looking forward to seeing them in November even more now.

The album art is still fucking awful, though.

Still lacks a Poetry of the Deed and Gold Country review.

Good God Poetry of the Deed is awesome! And all the shit talk I read yesterday? Find me somebody in punk rock that can go from folk to punk to alt./indie to acoustic pop in any of their albums. Frank Turner is one of the few that can get away with it.

Compared to all the Blink 182 and Green Day coverage, there really isn't much.

Needs more Bob Mould coverage if you ask me. Especially the video of him and No Answer playing "Something I Learned Today".

That's how I found out about it. Makes me think if it's going to be anything like that at his Minneapolis show. Do you know anything about his live shows lately on how much he incorporates the Husker Du aspect?

Oh, cool!

The two times I've seen him do full band shows (once in 2005, once in 2008) he did six or seven Husker Du songs, maybe nine or ten Sugar songs and the rest solo. The Husker songs both times were "Celebrated Summer," "Chartered Trips," "I Apologize," "Could You Be The One," "Makes No Sense At All." First time he also did "Hardly Getting Over It" while the second time he did "Divide and Conquer," which led to me being the one guy flipping out and fist pumping like a jackass. It ruled.

Yeah, it's not a blown away album. But it's still pretty amazing in my book. The only bands I can think of that ever blew me away with their sound this decade were Gaslight Anthem when they started out and Polar Bear Club with Sometimes Things Just Disappear.

I pre-ordered the CD from Fat about three weeks ago and still haven't gotten it either. Fat used to be all over the quick mail order/pre-orders too which is disappointing.

what are the prerequisites for becoming a punk rocker? i just became part of the human race, so i'm kind of new at this. can i just post on this site a bunch? also, is there a ceiling where if you or your family has too much money you can't be classified as punk rock? like, on my planet, my clan has a lot of glarbnards, but that is alien money so it doesn't apply to your kind. still, where i come from we are far superior to other clans in wealth, but in a lot of punk rock music, they seem to come from working-class backgrounds and from hard-working families. am i out of luck??
