It's been a while since we've posted something Brand New-related, so what better to break the drought than with a contest?

One winner gets a vinyl copy of the band's newest full-length, Daisy, as well an auto'd poster. A runner-up will get the album on compact disc and a poster, too.

The band is currently on a full U.S. tour in support of the record.

The Prizes

1 grand-prize winner will receive:

a copy of Daisy on vinyl
an autographed poster

1 runner-up winner will receive:

a copy of Daisy on CD
an autographed poster

I mean, I listen to a lot of Jesus Lizard, Shellac, etc. and stacked up against them, Brand New's new record is barely mediocre, at best. The record was made by people who love those bands for people that don't listen to those bands, so the automatic assumption is that "ooo is so revolutionary!"

It's up there for me too. Not quite as good as The Devil and God... but better than everything before that.

I think it's miles ahead of the Devil and God

Lyrically its sort of a step back because Vin wrote most of the album, but in terms of music aesthetics, its the best thing they've ever done.

I would say I like Brand New a pretty good amount, but this record blows. Up there with Chasing the Hamburgler as the dissapointment of the year.

Yeah, polarizing is a good way to put it. I have listened to it once straight though, and have tried a few more times, but it has never clicked. In fact the more I listen to it, the less I like it.
I will give the band credit for evolving. It would be easy to rewrite Deja Entendu over again, and keep fans like me happy.

I love it because its not trying to appease people who wanted them to write Deja Entendu/ Devil and God over and over and be another generic band categorized with the likes of TBS.

I'm not saying that at all. You're completely missing the point here. "I" don't care about reputation but maybe the band does. The only people they want to appease are themselves.

For a band that took such a drastic departure from each album they;ve made, it was inevitably that they would take the next big step in their musical direction. They don't want to be the band the plays "Seventy Times Seven" and "The Quite Things" at shows anymore.

I saw them play last year and played a blistering killer set with alot of new material which I thought was awesome. Problem was nobody else around me thought so, and the only time the crowd perked up was when they went into the opening chords of "Quite Things" and abruptly left the stage only to come back a few minutes later and go into a 12 minute rendition of "Welcome To Bangkok"

That's part of the reason I love them so much, also. There's just nothing as great, musically or lyrically as say, "You Won't Know" on this album. This album is a tiny step down from the last one, and that's the first time I've ever had to say that about these guys. Daisy still rules. Stoked to hear the new stuff live.

possibly, but i think it also has a lot to do with the face that their vinyl sells for like shit tons of money on ebay.

i think i might too. a friend of mine got like 150 or something almost as ridiculous for deja entendu like a year ago. i'm not sure if people are still going batshit for their vinyl though, or even what this one is limited to.

thats cause the initial deja print was limited. you can go pick this one up at interpunk for 15 bucks

from what i remember it wasn't too limited because like 3 years after it came out they were still 15 dollars on ebay. it's like frances the mute, 10,000 copies of that album printed and opened black copies still go for ridiculous amounts on ebay.
