This is a great list for sure, but I am a little surprised to see Weight of Air in the #1 spot. It's an excellent album, but the best of the year? Either way, 2009 was very good music-wise.

even the nbc producer who cut the raiders-jets game short to air heidi has to question your thinking in 2001.

I enjoyed eveyone's lists, though I'm EXTREMELY disapoointed there was no love for American Steel's Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts.

Can we retroactively recognize Salt n Pepa's 'Push It' as a punk song? It's so good. 6+ Replies

The punknews list is probably the best list ever.

Surprised that African Elephants was only an honorable mention...and that Supporting Caste was only at 10. Weak.

I love that Weight of Air is #1, I cannot stop listening to that fucking record. It's so good, and those guys are nice as can be. I'm a little suprised at the lack of American Rubicon on the list.

The Sidekicks record is great. I'm in such agreement that I'm posting their pink couch and live footage today for some Sidekicks visual overload. 1+ Reply

I haven't listened to a lot of new albums this year but for me the new Shook Ones ruled and so did the new Ruiner; i am really saddened that everyone wrote that one off because of the production. It's not brilliant or perfect production-wise but it's far from unlistenable and by-and-away the best part of the album is the vocals/lyrics which are unbelievably solid. 1+ Reply

Scrambles may be the 2nd best record of the year, but it's been the most important punk rock record of all time to me. 1+ Reply

Elitists. I feel like Collapser and the Unquotable A.M.H should be higher and Iron Front should be between them. Also, why isn't Nothington's record even mentioned? 4+ Replies

Good list, although there is a glaring omission in the exclusion of Nothington

Not that these all aren't great albums...but swap out Frank Turner for Chuck Ragan, Dinosaur Jr. for Brand New, and Castevet for Dead To Me. 1+ Reply

Wow, pretty stoked for the Sidekicks! Those little bastards deserve some love, cuz lord knows they get none from me. For a lot of people that record was really polarizing at first because they took some creative chances, but it's cool to see that the people who gave it a shot felt really strongly about it. Sometimes the most rewarding stuff in music comes from taking chances as a listener and I think this is one of those records. In any case, yay for them. 3+ Replies
