The Dear & Departed have been tapped to support the previously announced tour featuring Alkaline Trio and Cursive.

The Orange County, CA band will be supporting their recently released digital EP, Chapters.

What makes you think it's going to be so bad? Name another place that a band this size could reasonable play that's any better. And try not to be one of those dickheads who pisses on a band because of their audience, that's so annoying.

I think it'd be great to see them, rather than play one night at the Metro, play four nights at Reggie's or the Bottom Lounge.

But he's totally right. He's not pissing on the BAND because of their audience, he's pissing on the SHOW because of the audience. Like it or not, shitty audiences can ruin shows. I am a huge fan of the Lawrence Arms, but after all the shitheads in the crowd at the last Metro show they played, I'm hoping they'll play some secret shows in the future, as I won't deal with that again.

Exactly.
I was at that TLA show in October, and though the band was funny, played awesome songs, played well, the show in general was fucking terrible.
Drunk bro-tards just yelling at each other, ditzy punx uppin' shit... I couldn't see a fucking thing no matter where I tried to go.

Metro is terrible unless:
a) you're on the railing (which I can't be due to bird-bones and rheumatoid bullshit).
b) you're front-row of the balcony.
c) the place has 600 or less in capacity.

And there are TONS of bands that you can justifiably say that their fanbase kills their shows.
Hell, it's hard for me to say otherwise in regards to "cool" crowds.

The majority, admittedly not all, of Alkaline Trio fans are fuckwad douchebags.

Wasn't a whole lot better up by the railing. My main problem was this:

I was right behind the line of people on the railing. There were three people beside me. One was a girl, who was up at the railing, the other were two guys who were with her, and took turns "protecting" her by reaching around her on both sides, grabbing the railing and holding their elbows out. This meant I spent 90% of the show with muscles in my back and side stretched due to the lower half of my body being pushed a foot and a half farther forward than my torso, my neck twisted to see the stage and a sharp elbow constantly poking my ribs. I woke up incredibly sore (far more than normal for a show) in those four places the next morning.
I say 90% because, near the end, they started violently pushing back specific people in the pit and elbowing people that DARED touch them, and I finally said "You're being an asshole. If she (the girl) doesn't want to get bumped around, then she should go stand back there (and pointed to the back)." They left. It felt really, really good.

It is cool to talk bad about fanbases. You didn't discover them, you weren't there at their first shows you don't even own their albums. If you bought some, then you own a disc with leased material. Go to the show, and listen to the music don't go out of your way to point out the things you don't like who gives a fuck what you don't like except for the other whiney assholes who sit her and cry about how they though they were the top fanboy in the world but couldn't even see the band. Here's an idea, do something. Start a zine or shit fake like you started a zine. Get a fake press badge and try your ass off to get in. Bring a notebook and a decent looking camera. It doesn't have to work good it's all about how you look. If you have enough balls, this can get you in to many venues in Chicago.

I don't see what "being cool" or a "fanboy" has to with shitty show experiences, and pointing things out that obviously made me have a bad time at the show to begin with.
I was trying to watch and listen to the band, but it was near impossible.

Start a zine? Make a fake press pass? Bring cameras and notebooks with me? What the fuck are you smoking, asshole? You're completely lost on what Scruffy and I said, and have raped your own interpretation of it to boot.

Ram a knife into your throat repeatedly.

As a tried and true punknews poster (7.5 years for those scoring at home) I expected to have something really shitty to say about this, but it's really not that bad. I wouldn't say I like it (it doesn't really go anywhere, like the musical equivalent of a flat line graph), but if I was going to see this tour, I wouldn't want to hang myself if I had to wait through their set.

If Alkaline Trio's new album is supposed to be closer to their "punk" roots, then why are they touring with bands that are more mellow-indie and Morrissey-esque? It just doesn't make sense. I wish they would tour with some of their old "punk" friends. It would mean a lot to the long-term trio fans....

So they shouldn't tour with their friends in more indie bands? MAYBE, just MAYBE, they figure the fact the new record leans more toward their old stuff, they wanted something that nodded to their more recent material? Maybe they don't want to hear 2 other bands each night that sound just like them?
