Here's my crass commercialism:

So I started a website. It's called "Noir Daily", and it updates every weekday with a new page of serialized noir ficiton (Detective stories). It follows the adventures of James Narmer who is a losuy P.I. and usually gets the crap kick out of him and owes the phone company lots of money.

They are so amazing. I saw them at HOH and then in Philly. I think I would have had more fun if I knew more people at that show, although the friends I had there were rad. They are so talented. Matt just hops around and still plays amazingly.

I've listened to it about 5 times now, and I don't care for much of it, with the exception of a couple of tracks

I swear, some of the procrastination techniques people employ (myself inculded) make so little sense once you consider them from a position of having done the work. Yet, every time, they still work. It's almost magical.

And the fact that the weather is getting a lot nicer really doesn't help. All i want to do is just go outside and throw a football around, or drink a beer on my front porch.

I find putting a sticky note on the wall, around eye level that reads "stop fucking around", helps for some odd reason.

I can relate to that. I took a correspondence course in my last year with no deadlines.... Just have everything done by the end of the course. I needed to pay them to give me two extra months to finish said course because I didn't really start my assignments until the last month.

either that or tack a paper/project you got a bad grade on due to procrastination on the wall as a reminder, although that would probably just piss me off and I'd rip it off the wall pretty quickly. I never had decent time management in college (even now, to an extent). I did a ton of all-nighters, worked on papers/projects right until they were due....still kinda depressing to think about it, six years later.

I just got back from The Warfield box office downtown because I bought tix to a show, and they don't have the ticketmaster surcharge if you buy them there on Sundays. Well, apparently, Insane Clown Posse tickets went onsale this morning as well, because when I got downtown, there was two people in front of me with big, baggy jeans on, and super bright "Kool-Aid red" t-shirts with Juggalo written on the backs. After they bought their tickets,one of them cheered "Yeah, this is gonna be soooo tight!"... all I could think of was this website and the term "stoked."

Tragically, I can't laugh at Juggalos anymore. They just make me feel sort of weird and sad now. Most of the ones I've known have come from really fucked up, abusive, impoverished backgrounds and it's not a stretch for them to say ICP saved their lives/is all they have. Planned Parenthood should start using these people in their literature.

there's really not that much misogyny... and whenever there is it is called out by most of us.

it is true that every time a band with a female in it is featured, there is a stream of sexually driven remarks (holy_balls etc), but this has nothing to do with a deep-seated a hatred of women, and everything to do with the over-active imaginations of sex-crazed, sex-starved young men / teenagers.

i think it's the fact that this is a music website that reduces the sexual remarks to a degree of sexism; i.e. usually girls who are in bands featured here are viewed (by a minority) solely as objects of sexual desire as opposed to musicians who deserve equal respect..

can you image what would happen if some of the few females who post here started making crass and lude remarks about every man in every band... It would be interesting to see the reaction.

there's definitely strong elements of sexism.. read any distillers / spinnerette review for some prime examples. even then though, it is still usually called out by others.

With bands like the Distillers though, they sort of invite it by using sex appeal to sell their band. Not that it makes it OK, but when you're setting women up for objectification it's not surprising when it follows. Screaming Females or Vivian Girls, however, are a completely different scenario.

i was referring more to the comments about Brody not writing her own music... there has always been a derogatory and undeniably sexist notion among many posters here that she gets her husband to write her music or simply steals her husband's style because she is a woman and (the assumption is) that she is therefore intellectually incapable of writing her own music...

I agree... I mean, if there is a female artists on here who sucks, people will say that she does, even if she's hot, but it doesn't go without making any sort of "she's hot" or "would" comments.
If she's good, someone will usually come out and make some sort of positive comments(songwriting,etc) and if she is good and hot, well, then hotness overides the goodness, and that's where the derogatory comes in "I'd pee in her butt" or "I'd drink her bathwater" or "I'd chew her bubblegum".

yea, it was certainly formulaic... but I quite enjoyed it anyway. it became increasingly predictable by the end. I was hoping his career was gonna have a resurgence but instead he took the easy option and started writing songs for 'Tommy'. It would have been more believable if it hadn't ended so happily and amicably...with some trauma or tragedy or death or something. haha.

I'm pretty sure all Muslims are supposed to abstain from alcohol, but it's not universally observed. Sort of like Christians and those pesky Old Testament rules (no shellfish, Sabbath is holy, adultery is bad, etc) everyone likes to pretend don't exist.

Regardless, a lot of Middle Eastern countries have national bans on alcohol.

In fact the day after I got it my friend and I were going to see reel big fish, we got the address of the show, and drove there, and it was an empty cow pasture. Then we realized it was in a different city. So we drove the hour to daytona and got there right as they were about to go on. Someone was passing out Catch 22 tapes with Keasby Nights and Sick and Sad that I've still got in my car somewhere.

sometimes it makes me wonder if they just remastered the original movies and then brought them back to theaters for a brief run, if that would still attract people to attend. Kinda like when Star Wars Episodes IV, V, VI were brought back to the theaters. I think I'd check out Karate Kid...maybe even Die Hard...I know you didn't mention the second movie, but I think that would fill some seats.

The two acoustic tracks from the Menzingers are pretty decent. New Smoke or Fire is great, but I don't know if it's cause the songs are good or if it's because of the time since Sinking Ship.

It was a friends birthday yesterday, and we ate at this great restaurant here in SF called The Front Porch (29th and Mission) that has amazing fried chicken... it was served in a popcorn bucket with sides of mashed taters-n-gravy and collard greens. Also had fried okra, baked mac-n-cheese, and cornbread, along with two BIG Red Stripes and a whole ass-load of wine. I took like 2 really huge shits today that were a good follow-up to last night, and I just took it easy today and cleaned my apartment. WOO

true story, at my moms house, the ducks were so numerous and so used to being fed by the lady upstairs that when she wasn't around they would come and KNOCK ON OUR DOOR. Literally knock on the door. I can't emphsize this enough, the ducks would knock on the door, asking to be fed. I guess they assumed we could get in touch with the lady upstairs.
