Bridge Nine Records hardcore act Energy have launched a stream of their new EP, Walk Into the Fire. It is due out today and is the follow up to Invasions of the Mind which was released in 2008.

despite having listened to very little recent music by AFI, crime in stereo, or brand new, i can't help but posit my unfounded opinion that this sounds like a mix of all those bands

I'd say you are pretty close. The effort to sound "dark" just seems way too forced.
Personally, I cant get into this band despite liking those bands.

Agreed, I love all 3 of those bands listed, but Energy is just okay.
